My career in this league can be summed up in three acts. In act one, I dominated the beginning. In the league’s first four seasons, I produced 48 wins, won four straight division titles, brought home a top seed, a scoring crown and a stunning 10-1 record in the postseason, which included three championships.
Then 2003 happened. 2003 looked a lot like the previous seasons. I struggled out of the gate, but by season’s end, I was the top seed and scoring king. Then Calderon became the first 8-seed to beat a 1-seed and it suddenly act two began.
Act two stretched from 2003-2013. During those 11 years, I struggled with consistency, missing the playoffs four times during that stretch. Yet, when I was good, I was real good. I delivered three top seeds, three scoring crowns and became the first ever 12-1 team (2010). In the playoffs during those 11 seasons, I went 10-2 in the quarterfinals and semifinals, but unlike my act one, I couldn’t finish. I reached the finals four times, but only managed to win it all in 2012.
Then in act 3, it became a tragedy. Over the last five years, I have struggled at a level that would make a Vozzola blush. I have produced five straight losing seasons (including back-to-back 3-10 years in 2014-15) and missed the playoffs in four of those seasons. In 2016, I earned the 6-seed, but fell in the finals. Then in 2018, I hit rock bottom for the second time, earning the next season’s first pick.
Overall, I’m still first, second and third in all the important statistical categories, but at some point, “what have you done for me lately” has to kick in, so I’m dropping myself as far back as 5th in my career rankings.
