Twenty years of Robioland Fantasy Football and we have some intense rivalries. This list, is not that. This list is about those foes you love to face. These are the top-20 most lopsided rivalries in league history (and two bonus ones).
#20 JEFF OVER ERIC Mr. Greenblatt, to the surprise of no one, will only appear on this list twice and both at the very bottom. That’s the life of a man who only has a winning record against three current league members. Jeff and Eric have met only 14 times, but Jeff leads the series, 9-5, despite losing his last two to Eric.
#19 JEFF OVER RICH B Burrier use to lead this series, beating Jeff in six of their first ten meetings. However, Burrier has fallen on hard times, as Jeff has won six-straight meetings, dating back to 2015 and now leads 10-6. One of those victories was in the 2016 quarterfinals (their only playoff meeting).
#18 MATT OVER GRIFF When Matt joined this league, he didn’t get to face Griff often, twice missing him in a season (due to divisions). However, when he did take on the veteran, he won, winning the first three matchups and five of the first six, including the 2009 championship game. Since 2010 though, Griff has crept back into it, taking five of nine. Currently, Matt leads the series, 10-6.
#17 RICH B OVER COLBY Burrier, who is the third most senior member of this league with Molly gone (Rich accepted his invitation before Masterson), has a winning record against four teams. He’s 11-9 against me, 11-10 against Griff and 13-12 against Calderon. All tight affairs that could swing in the wrong direction in one season. The only team he’s remotely taken advantage of is Colby. Last season, Burrier fell to Colby, but that defeat ended a four-game winning streak. That winning streak is the reason why Rich leads their all-time series, 10-6.
#16 GRIFF OVER COLBY Honestly, if I wasn’t just ranking these by the numbers, I’d probably have these two much higher, as it has proven to be arguable the league’s most important rivalry. Overall, Griff is 13-9 against Colby. The most times Griff had beaten Colby in a row was three straight back between 2007-2011 (they twice avoided each other when we had divisions). This season, Colby swept Griff, which was the second time he’s done that in a regular season. Where Griff gets him is in the postseason. These two have faced off six times in the playoffs and Griff has won five of those six contests, including twice in the title games (2005, 2015).
#15 BOB OVER MATT Unfortunately for all of us, Bob’s name appears a ton on this list and it begins here. Overall, Bob has taken care of business against Neatock, going 14-10 overall. He even has a five-game winning streak in the regular season. However, Matt has won when it mattered lately, eliminating Castrone from the postseason the past two years.
#14 ROBIO OVER GRIFF With so much success over former teams, the amount of teams I have winning records against is shrinking. In fact, I have a winning record against just five teams. I’m not bad against Neatock, as I’ve taken 13 of 22, although I’ve now dropped three straight (which is why I kept it off this list). Thus, my favorite opponent remains my oldest opponent, Griff Coomer. Although I recently suffered through a four-game losing streak to him, I still lead our all-time series, 16-12, having won two of the last three meetings.
#13 BOB OVER JEFF Bob won his first three against Jeff and has managed to take six of the last eight, giving him a commanding 9-3 record over the man who once helped him land a gig at MTV.
#12 ERIC OVER RICH B The younger Vozzola has not been a beacon of success in this league, as he has a winning record against just two teams. He’s 10-9 against Neatock and then there is Burrier. Overall, Eric leads the series 13-8 and that’s even after Burrier swept him this past season. Prior to 2018, Eric had won seven of eight, including one semifinals matchup in 2012.
#11 DON OVER ERIC In Don’s first season in the league, he walked away with only four wins, but half of them were against his son, who he swept in 2001. Three times in his first five seasons in the league, he swept Eric (Eric swept him in 2003). Don never had a dominating era against Eric, other than taking seven of nine between 2005-2011. However, recently, Eric has found success, taking three of their last four. Overall, Don leads the series 15-10. The 25 games played against each other are the most for any two teams who have never met in the playoffs.
#10 BOB OVER ERIC These two use to be pretty evenly matched. Through 11 matchups, Bob held a slim 6-5 lead, as Eric took three of four from Castrone between 2008-2011. However, Bob has dominated since 2012, taking six of seven, including their only playoff showdown in the 2017 semifinals.
#9 MATT OVER JEFF Back when both Jeff and Matt joined the league in 2003, Jeff actually won their only meeting. However, since his return to solo work, Neatock has dominated the old man. Matt won their next eight meetings and is currently riding a three-game victory streak, holding a commanding 11-3 record against Jeff.
#8 RICH C OVER ROB M Between 2005-2009, Calderon took five straight from Masterson. Add three more seasons and he won eight of nine and was dominating the series, 11-3. Eventually, Masterson would get competitive. In 2015, he beat Rich in their only matchup in week six. It was the first time since Calderon joined the league thirteen years earlier, he didn’t defeat Rob in a season. Since 2015, Rob has taken three of five, but twice they have met in the playoffs since 2013 and both times Calderon walked away with a win and a championship and now leads the all-time series, 15-7.
#7 BOB OVER RICH B This series once belonged to Burrier, who defeated Bob in four of their first five meetings. Then Bob went on a four-game winning streak over Rich in 2007 and has taken 14 of their last 17. Overall, Bob is 15-7 against Burrier. This includes a stunning four victories in the postseason since 2011.
#6 BOB OVER ROBIO Yep, fucking Bob again. Unlike Burrier, who Bob actually struggled with early, he’s been dominating me since he joined the league. He won three of his first four meetings with me and eight of the first 10. I did manage to win three in a row in 2012-13, but I haven’t beaten Bob since 2013, as he’s won five straight and leads the all-time series, 17-8. The 17 victories over me is the second most any one team has over another.
#5 RICH C OVER COLBY Colby began his career as Jeff’s teammate and apparently Calderon’s bitch. Rich won the first six meetings between these two, including back-to-back two-game sweeps in 2004-2005. Through the 2013 season, Calderon had up’d that victory total to 11 out of 13, including a third sweep. Colby did manage to secure a few victories, but heading into the 2019 season, Rich is riding a two-game winning streak and leads the all-time series, 14-5.
#4 COLBY OVER ROBIO Colby joined the league in 2004 and hit me where it hurts…in the standings, beating me in four of our first five meetings, including a 2005 semifinals matchup. In 2008, it appeared I fixed the problem, beating Colby twice, including the semifinals that year. However, Colby returned the favor by sweeping me the following season. Since that 2009 season, Colby has dominated. He’s taken 10 of our last 12 meetings, including six straight, dating back to 2014.
#3 BOB OVER COLBY Through the 2011 season, these two often battled. In fact, through 12 contests, Bob held just a 7-5 lead over Colby. However, Bob would take six in a row and ten of 11, until finally losing to the Mahomes-led Colby team last year. It was Colby’s first regular season win over Bob since 2011. Overall, Bob leads the series 16-7.
#2 GRIFF OVER ERIC Like me, Griff hasn’t had the same success with the current league members, like he did with some of the original, but he is the only person to have a winning record for his career over Bob Castrone (13-11), despite losing three of his last four to him. Yet, his favorite opponent remains an oldie. The one, the only…the Eric Vozzola. Having won 10 of their last 12 face-offs, Griff holds a 18-8 edge over Eric in their career series. The 18 victories are the most by one team over another.
#1 BOB OVER DON Through seven games, Bob held a 4-3 lead over Don, but it was Don who won their only playoff matchup at the time in 2006. Yet, since then, the elder Vozzola has barely put up a fight. Since 2008, Bob is a stunning 13-1 against Don, who last beat Bob in week one of the 2012 season. Currently, Bob is riding a 8-game winning streak, which is the longest active streak against one team by another. Bob leads the all-time series, 17-4.
BONUS TWO (THE UNDEFEATED)
MATT OVER MARC Pattini has only been in this league two years, but has already fallen to Neatock four times. Matt swept their two meetings in 2017 and took care of Marc for a second time in 2018 in the semifinals.
MARC OVER ROBIO No offense to Marc, but nothing better represents my recent downfall than my winless record against Pattini. Oddly enough, Marc is undefeated against two teams. Me and Jeff (2-0).
