The Title

Richard Burrier scores a record 2,011 points in a title game – Championship, 2003

Rich was a bit of a disappointment entering the 2003 season. The previous year, Burrier failed to make the playoffs, simple because he lost a game in week one where he forgot to play a kicker who was on an actual NFL team. He missed the playoffs by one game. However, in his second year, Rich Burrier staked his claim early by producing his highest score (and the weekly high score) over Calderon. Three weeks later, Rich scored over 2,000 and after another victory in week five, Rich was 5-1. After the hot start, Rich began to sputter, dropping two here, one there and by the time the season ended, he finished a weak 4-5. However, by taking down Masterson in the final week,

Rich finished 8-6 and it was all he needed to earn a division title. He entered the playoffs as the third seed, but he was also the second highest scoring team. However, he was not the favorite to win it all, as top seeded (and high scorer) Robio was. However, I was upset in the first round, while Burrier cruised. In the semi’s though, Burrier struggled and escaped with a narrow 87-pt victory over a hot Calderon team. The win set him up with a title game match up with seasoned vet, Griff. For Rich, he got to this point riding the three-headed monster of Manning, Tomlinson and Stephan Davis. However, heading into the season’s last game, the Panthers sat Davis, but luckily for Rich, he had his backup DeShaun Foster sitting on his bench.

In the championship game, Rich didn’t miss Davis and he didn’t miss a beat behind Manning, Tomlinson and Foster. He steam rolled Griff, becoming the first (and only) team to score over 2,000 in the title game. The final score; 2,011-1,036.
