The Rally

Robio wins the title after a 2-5 start to the season, Playoffs, 2002

2002, the season that gives all bad teams hope, proving that even the worst starts can be overcome. Out of the gate, I got lucky as Burrier failed to start a kicker who actually played on a team (I won by 28 points). In week two, I faced off with another rookie, Justin Acerno and got my ass handed to me, but in week three, I scored over 1,500 and defeat a third rookie, Rob Masterson. At 2-1, I was quite happy, considering my 0-4 start in 2001. Then things suddenly took a turn for the worst.

I would lose four straight games, including a heartbreaker to Don, 1,818-1,772. And just like that, I was 2-5, last in my division and two-games back of Masterson, the division leader. However, I manage to squeeze outthree straight wins and just like that I was back to .500, but then I fell victim to another Vozzola, this time Eric. At 5-6, I still sat in last, two games back of division leading Masterson. However, Masterson suddenly got cold, failing to win another game, while I got hot. I dominated my last three divisional opponents (scoring 2,153 against Justin) and passed them all to win the division title.

Seven weeks after being 2-5, I was thethird seed. After winning six of seven and scoring over 1,500 five times in that stretch, nothing was going to stop me in the playoffs. I ended up having one of the greatest three games in the post-season, scoring 1,815 against Justin, 1,598 against Masterson and finally 1,841 against Molly. To this day, I’m the only person to score three-straight 1,500-pt games in the post-season.
