The Modern Era

Four new guys join the league and the lineup hasn’t changed since – Week One, 2003

In week one in 2003, nothing too amazing happened during the games. David beat me, Bob handled Matt, Griff crushed his wife, Eric beat a bad Don team, Burrier took down Calderon in the week’s highest scoring game, and Masterson beat his roommate by only 46 points. Certainly some good games, but nothing that stands out. However, the week marked a great moment in Robioland. Prior to 2003, the league was always in flux. In 1999, the league was eight teams, all Ruby Tuesday’s employees (three managers, one cook and four waiters).

In

2000, we added two more Ruby’s workers, plus Brian’s 1999 GM, Jimmy (much like Jeff/Colby) and my roommate, Matt Williams. In 2001, I moved to New York; out went four Florida people, and in came two family members (Don, Eric), my dreaded new roommate and my girlfriend at the time. In 2002, my roommate, girlfriend and two more Florida peeps were out, and in came Griff’s girlfriend (later wife) Molly and the first three MTV people; Rob Masterson, Rich Burrier and Justin Acerno.

In 2003, Floridians; Rick, Brian and Jimmy were gone, as well as Justin Acerno and in stepped in the final pieces of the puzzle; first Bob Castrone, then Rich Calderon, followed by Jeff/Colby and then Matt Neatock.

By this time, there were only three original league members left. In week one we played our first games together and we have yet to change any league members since. I celebrate the modern era before each season with my rankings from when this core group came together. Sadly, the run came to an end after the 2008 season, when Jeffrey replaced longtime league member, David.
