After losing four title games, Griff finally wins the big game – Title Game, 2005
There were the
Minnesota Vikings, there were the Buffalo Bills and then there was …GriffCoomer. After six years in the league, Griff was one of the more successful teams in the Robioland. He had only one losing season and he had a knack for winning two playoff gamesand getting into the title game. However, he also had a bad habit of losing that title game. In fact, heading into 2005, Griff was 0-4 in title games; twice to me in ’99 & ’00 and to Burrier and Bob in ’03 and ’04. In 2005, good things again were predicted for the Stoner, but out of the gate he didn’t look so hot. He dropped four of his first six.
Suddenly though, Griff got hot and he started winning; three straight in fact (with two high scores). After a week ten defeat to Jeff/Colby, Griff managed to win his final three. Although he failed to win the division (earning the 4th seed), Griff was considered a favorite, thanks to his stud backs of Alexander and Larry Johnson. After cruising by his wife in round one, Griff just escaped Dave by 93 points in the semis. Again, Griff found himself in the title game for the third year in a row (the only team to do that). The only real difference was it was week sixteen.
Prior to 2005, the championship game was played on the final week of the NFL schedule, but in 2005 we switched it to one week earlier. Maybe that was the difference, maybe the fantasy gods were tired of picking on the lil’ Coomer, but in the championship game of 2005, Griff Coomer defeated Jeff/Colby, 1,882-729. I guess it is fitting that he won by the largest margin in title game history.
