The Lone Win

Dave wins his only game against Rich Calderon – Week Four, 2006

Sometimes it takes a little time before one realizes the importance of a moment. In this case, it took about nine weeks. Entering 2006, Dave started off a bit slow, dropping his first three. However, he only really had one bad game and he did actually manage to score over 1,500 in one defeat. Although Robio’s pre-season predictions had him finishing last in his division, Dave always seem to find a way to sneak into the playoffs (he was the only current team to never miss a post-season), so he was expected to turn it around. So it wasn’t too shocking when in week four, Dave beat (2-1) Rich Calderon 1,128-843.

Calderon was a favorite in Robio’s rankings, so this was a bit of an upset, but not a huge surprise. However, it wasn’t until the end of the season when we realized that this would be Dave’s lone bright spot in 2006. He would end up dropping a record nine-straight games. More importantly though, Dave’s single win over Rich played a huge part in deciding the championship. Calderon missed the post-season by one game. If he had won the game, Rich would have earned a playoff birth and eventual champ Don, would have missed the playoffs.
