Everyone has his or her kryptonite…that one opponent you just can’t seem to beat. For me, it used to be Don. He beat me seven straight times, until last year when I finally got that monkey off my back by beating him twice, including the post-season. Now I have a new monkey (i.e. kryptonite).
Here is everyone’s kryptonite.
ROBIO’S KRYPTONITE IS BOB I’ve gone 5-10 against Bob. He’s taken six of the last eight, including last year’s title game. Of those six wins, Bob scored the weekly high score three times.
GRIFF’S KRYPTONITE IS ROBIO He’s gone just 5-13 against me in his career. He’s lost six of his last seven against me, but even worse, Griff is 0-4 against me in the post-season, including the league’s first two title games.
ERIC’S KRYPTONITE IS DON Eric seems to have a lot of kryptonite in this league. In fact, he has a winning record against just one current person, Rich Burrier. However, no one has done more damage to him than his own father. Eric is just 5-11 all-time against Pop. He dropped five straight between 2004-2006. He’s managed to win two out of the last five, but in their last two meetings, Eric has produced the weekly low score.
DON’S KRYPTONITE IS BOB Mr. Castrone makes his second appearance on the list. Bob has taken seven of ten from Don over the years. Don hasn’t beaten Bob since 2007, dropping three straight and five of his last six.
ROB M’S KRYPTONITE IS MOLLY Like Eric, Masterson actually has a lot of kryptonite. He’s won just 33% of his games against Calderon and 31% of his games against Colby. He’s hitting just 29% against me, but against Molly, Rob has managed a record of just 2-8 (20%). In fact, the last time Rob beat Molly was when he broke the league scoring record (2,501 points) in the quarterfinals. That was way back in 2003. Since then, Rob has dropped six straight (two years they didn’t face off).
RICH B’S KRYPTONITE IS MATT I touched on this briefly in Tuesday’s Thought. Burrier is just 2-8 against Matt. Pretty impressive when you consider that Rich’s next worst opponent is Eric at 4-6. Rich has dropped five straight against Matt. His last win over Neatock was 2006.
MOLLY’S KRYPTONITE IS ROBIO Technically, Griff has the most wins over Molly (He’s 10-6 against his wife), but Molly has won just 27% of her games against me (3-8). She’s dropped five of her last six. For the record, this makes me 21-8 against the Coomers.
BOB’S KRYPTONITE IS MATT Bob leads the league in winning percentage, so it was tough to find a kryptonite. In fact, Matt is the only person to have a winning record against Bob. Griff and Masterson are tied with him (both at 6-6), while four others are one game behind. Anyhow, Bob is 5-7 lifetime against Matt. Bob started off by winning four of the first six, but Matt has taken five of the last six, including one playoff game in 2007.
RICH C’S KRYPTONITE IS DON Okay, I’m going to change this one up. No one in this league has really dominate Calderon. He has a losing record against five teams, with three of those (Griff, Burrier and Molly) holding two game leads. Burrier has the most wins with eight, but I’m going to go ahead and call Don his kryptonite. Sure he has a lifetime winning record over Don (7-4), but Don has now won four straight over Calderon, including twice knocking Rich out of the playoffs as the #7 seed.
MATT’S KRYPTONITE IS ROBIO And it’s me again. I didn’t realize I’d be on this list so much when I started it. Matt actually beat me in our first meeting back in 2003 and he won our last won in 2009, but in between, he’s lost seven of eight. Overall, he’s just 3-7 against me.
COLBY’S KRYPTONITE IS RICH C This one was the easiest to figure out. Colby is just 1-8 in his lifetime against Calderon. His only win came in 2009. He’s shared a division with Rich three times, but is 0-6 in those match ups.
JEFF’S KRYPTONITE IS BOB It’s only officially been a three-year career for Jeff, but in that short time he’s never found a way to beat Bob. He’s 0-3 in his career. It’s the only match up between active owners where one person has never beaten another.
