Oh Shit…It’s Don

DON VOZZOLA

There are plenty of moments when you want to see Don. Christmas time is always nice. Early in the fantasy season is always a nice time. Mid-season, is good. How about towards the end of a long Robioland football season? Yep, that will work too. However, if there is one time you don’t want to face Don it’s when you are a top-seed and are stuck facing him in the quarterfinals…that’s when Don is your worst nightmare.

Don’s amazing stat line in the first-round of our post-season is one of the craziest stats in fantasy football.

In 11 seasons, Don has made it to the post-season nine times.

Four times Don has been seeded #5 or higher. He’s been a 1-seed, a 2-seed twice and a 5-seed, yet those higher seeds have not translated into playoff victories. In fact, Don is 0-4 in the post-season when seeded five or higher.

However, make him a seventh or eighth seed and the man is golden (he has never been a sixth seed).

Don has been a 7-seed four times and a 8-seed once. For his career, he is a stunning 4-1 in the quarterfinals. As you can see, he’s done all his round one damage against two victims, Molly and Calderon.

2006 – As the 7-seed, beat #2 Molly 2008 – As the 7-seed, beat #2 Rich C 2009 – As the 7-seed, lost to #2 Bob 2010 – As the 7-seed, beat #3 Rich C 2011 – As the 8-seed, beat #1 Molly

What’s crazy is, as a lower seed, Don is 8-3 in the playoffs overall, winning two titles (2006 & 2008), both as a 7-seed. You want more crazy? During this stretch beginning in 2006, Don has taken out that season’s scoring champ four times! He’s done this three out of the last four years, including the last two seasons.

In reality, Don should count his blessings that he’s in this league, because most fantasy leagues don’t incorporate an 8-team playoff format. Most league’s do 6-team (giving the top-two seeds a bye). If we did that, then Don would have only made the playoffs four times in 11 season.
