Is he the greatest keeper ever? Maybe, he has two titles to prove it (both with Matt).
Here you will find a list of all the keepers kept by all current teams. First though, let me remind you the brief history of our keeper system.
2004 – First year of keepers. In this season you could keep up to three players. The first two had to come from rounds 1-10. The first player would cost a team a first-round pick, the second a second-round pick. The third player had to come from the final five rounds and that player would cost a team a third-round pick. Also in 2004, we allowed for the keeping of free agent pick ups in designated rounds in category two.
2005 – A switch was made when we created three separate categories. Category one was rounds 1-3, category two was round 4-8 and category three was round 8-15. You could still keep three players, one from each category and you would keep him in the round you kept him. At this point there was no restrictions for how long you could keep a keeper, however, each season you kept a player they would be bumped up to the bottom of the next category. Once they reached category one, they would advance one round up each year until that player was a first-round pick.
2007 – This was banner year in keeper rule changes. First, we switched up the rounds within the categories. Category one became round 1-5, category two became rounds 6-10 and category three became round 11-15. Second, we finally put a cap on how long a player could be kept. You could keep any player for three years, unless you reshirted him (thus you could keep him for four years). Lastly, kept players would remain in the spot they were drafted for the full three years.
