Bye, Bye Brett

As most of you know, Brett Favre has left the world of professional football. Since none of you are Packer fans, I doubt anyone really gives two shits about it. However, Brett Favre the fantasy quarterback, that is an entire different story. Let’s look at the history, shall we.

Again, we don’t have a lot of individual records in the 1999-2000 season. However, we do know that Favre was not on either championship team and he was the 7th ranked QB in 2000. In the beginning, Favre was considered a ‘must have’ player, being drafted as early as the second round in 2001. However, as he got older, he kept slipping in the draft. In his last two seasons, Favre went undrafted. For whatever reason, Favre remained popular in Florida. In fact, only one non-Florida team (Jeff/Colby in ’04) drafted Brett. Despite falling in the draft year after year, Favre was a starter every year except his final two (he became a starter midway last year) and surprisingly, only two people (on record) ever cut Brett Favre; Rich Calderon (twice) and Jeff/Colby in ’04.

As a player, Brett did find some success in Robioland. He was always ranked in the top-12 among QB’s, usually in the top-six. His only rough year was in 2005 when he finished 15th among QBs. Overall, his teams finished around or above .500 and as a starter, he nailed down one division title. His teams only missed the playoffs twice (both with Eric), yet he did not have a lot of post-season success. He does have one Robioland Championship (Don ’06), but it was as a backup to Marc Bulger. His playoff record as a starter was a less-than-impressive 1-3.

1999 – No Record

2000 – Favre finished 7th among quarterbacks

2001 – Eric drafted Favre in the second round (22nd overall). He started all season and was the 3rd best QB. However, Eric still lost nine games that year and missed the playoffs.

2002 – Griff drafted Favre in the third round (27th overall). He only finished as the 12th best QB, however, he started all year, leading Griff to an 8-6 record. He did mange to win his only playoff game as a starter, but lost in the semis. Griff would make it to the finals the next three years without Favre as his QB.

2003 – Brett last to the fourth round in ’03, where Molly snatched him up (42nd overall). Favre finished as the 6th best QB, started all year long, leading Molly to a 9-5 record and division title (Favre’s only divisional title). However, Molly fell in the first round.

2004 – Colby become the only non-Floridians to draft Favre in the fourth round (46th overall). However, after a rough start, JC cut the veteran QB in week three for Rich Gannon. It would be a mistake, as Favre would finish 5th among QBs. Don ended grabbing him the following week. Favre would start for Don the remainder of the season, finished 7-7 for the year. However, he would lose in the first round of the playoffs again.

2005 – Eric took a second stab at Favre, selecting him in Round Five (51st overall). It would be his worst year. Favre finished 15th in quarterbacks. Despite his awful play down the stretch, Eric stuck with him and suffered. He finished 6-7, missing the playoffs.

2006 – For the first time ever, Brett Favre would go undrafted. Calderon would be the first to pick him up in week three, but dropped him for Leftwich two weeks later. In week seven, Don picked up Favre, but only to backup starter Marc Bulger. Although Favre did see some playing time in the regular season, it was Bulger who would lead Vozzola to his first title in 2006. Favre would finish the season as the 11th best QB in the league.

2007 – For the second straight year, Favre went undrafted and again, Calderon pick him up, and again, dropped him in week four for Jeff Garcia. The following week, Molly would grab him and within a few weeks, he was inserted into the starting lineup. Despite the fact Favre would finish as the 4th best QB, Molly put Carson Palmer back into the starting lineup for the post-season. She lost in the first round.
