ROUND ONE

1. ROBIO – Ezekiel Elliott RB-DAL | RANK #5 For the 18th time in 21 seasons, the first overall pick helped propel last year’s biggest loser into the postseason. Elliot quietly finished fifth, earning a third career All-Robio award, becoming the fifth 1st overall pick to led his team to a title.

2. GRIFF – David Johnson RB-ARI | RANK #32 He began the year with a 334-point bang and scored over 278 in four of Griff’s six games, so Coomer’s losing ways had little to do with the man who once led him to the 2015 title. Yet, a week 7 injury sent Johnson’s season into the toilet. By the time he did return in week 10, he had lost his starting gig to Kenyan Drake.

3. RICH B – Julio Jones WR-ATL | RANK #14 It proved to be a typical Julio season. One of the best receivers in football went nine games without a touchdown, diminishing his stats to the point where he finished outside the top ten among all receivers. This explains why Burrier sent his first pick to Robio for Lockett and Engram. Fortunately for me, Julio’s struggles ended in the semifinals of the playoffs, where he ended the year scoring 388 and 332, leading me to a fifth title.

4. JEFF – Odell Beckham WR-CLE | RANK #24 No longer on the inept Giants, Beckham was expected to flourish. Instead, he floundered. In Jeff’s 13 regular season games, the Browns receiver had just two 100-yard games and two touchdowns and barely qualified as a fantasy starter.

5. ERIC – Travis Kelce TE-KC | RANK #1 By taking Kelce in round one, Eric tied the record for the earliest a team had snagged a tight end. Did it pay off? Sure, he finished first among tight ends, but with only four touchdowns on the fantasy regular season and just one 100-yard game, Kelce didn’t dominate like he had in year’s past. With Michael Thomas and Dalvin Cook among the five picks taken after Kelce, it’s hard to see this pick as anything close to successful.

6. ROB M – Christian McCaffrey RB-CAR (K) | RANK #1 A smart keep that kept Rob among the elites all season long. No matter who played quarterback, no matter who was coaching the team and no matter had bad the Carolina’s offense got, McCaffrey kept on producing. His 4,602 points were the second most behind just Lamar Jackson. He nearly became the third back ever to average nearly 400 fantasy points per game, leading all backs in total yards and touchdowns.

7. COLBY – Michael Thomas WR-NO | RANK #1 For reasons that became clearer, Colby panicked early and went shopping for a tight end and decided to do a two-for-one deal, giving up Thomas for Robert Woods and T.J. Hockenson. Who would have known he was giving up the league’s best wideout, who earned a first-team All-Robio player and broke Marvin Harrison’s record for most catches in a season. When I eventually won the 2019 championship, I did it with three of the top six players drafted that year.

8. BOB – Le’Veon Bell RB-NYJ | RANK #12 By taking Bell in round on, it became the first time in over a decade that Bob had drafted a running back with his first overall pick (excluding Elliot, who he kept last year). After Bell’s performance, it might be another ten years before Bob does it again. After opening the year with a pair of 200-point games, Bell disappeared behind into a void of nothingness. Over the next eight weeks, he would not rush for more than 60 yards in a game. The only reason he cracked the top-12 were his high receiving numbers. Still, he would hit 200 just three more times after week two

9. DON – Joe Mixon RB-CIN | RANK #17 Behind David Johnson, Mixon was the runner-up for worst pick in the first round. Mixon was a healthy failure all season long, unable to gain any traction on the worst team in the league. The lowlight of the season were weeks six and seven. In those two games, Mixon rushed the ball 18 times for 12 total yards.

10. MICHAEL – Dalvin Cook RB-MIN | RANK #2 Since McCaffrey was a keeper, Cook ends up being the best overall pick in round one. He had over 1,500 total yards in 12 games, scoring at least one touchdown per game. He proved to be the only highlight on Michael’s first season in the league, as everyone else on this squad tumbled.

11. RICH C – Todd Gurley RB-LAR | RANK #16 With solid keepers waiting in the wings, Rich decided to roll the dice on Gurley. At first, it was five. He hit 200 in four of his first five weeks, but never approached the 300 and 400 point games he was delivering the season before. Between weeks 6-12, things turned ugly. Gurley hit 200 just once and I openly wondered if Rich could risk starting him in the postseason. Rich did and Gurley played his best ball, hitting 200+ in four start, starting in week 13. Yet, it always felt like he was disappointing. Just look at his final two games. Sure, he scored over 200 in each, but in total he rushed the ball 26 times for 68 yards.

12. MATT – Saquon Barkley RB-NYG (K) | RANK #21 In what would have been our championship game, Barkley dominated. He had 189 yards rushing, another 90 receiving, scored twice and finished with what would have been a postseason record 678 points. Unfortunately for Matt, his season ended the week before, as Barkley was a bust for most of the season, thanks to missing three games earlier in the year.
