2018 MID-SEASON ALL-ROBIO AWARDS

We are a little past the halfway point, so it’s time to talk about those great players who have made some your teams great.

So far this season, Calderon is the king of All-Robio, as he has four players earning a award at this point. Everyone has at least one, even Griff with a kicker, except one team…Bob Castrone. Despite a 5-win team, he has no players earning an All-Robio award yet. Of course, that’s not even the worst stat. I would have had three 1st-team All-Robio award players, but I traded two of those players away this season. Suck on that, Murray.

FIRST-TEAM

QB – Patrick Mahomes (Colby) Right now, the league MVP vote is coming down to two players: this guy and Gurley. Both are just dominating their position this season. Mahomes is averaged a stunning 418 points per game, 65 more than the next quarterback. He’s second in yards thrown, but is first in touchdowns, on pace to throw 50 touchdowns this year.

Fun with Facts: Colby went 13 seasons without ever having a first-team All-Robio quarterback. Yet, after Wilson did it last year, he’s going to do it back-to-back seasons.

RB – Todd Gurley (Marc) He’s averaging 4.8 yards per carry, is on pace for nearly 60 catches and is crushing the league in touchdowns, with 14. He’s 73 fantasy points better than the next guy on this list, averaging 394 fantasy points per game, just 24 points behind Mahomes.

Fun with Facts: Gurley is looking to become the fifth running back in the history of the league to earn back-to-back 1st-team All-Robio awards. The last person to do it was LaDainian Tomlinson, who earned it three straight years (2005-2007).

RB – Saquon Barkley (Robio) Barkley is looking to becoming the fifth rookie running back to earn a first-team All-Robio award. The other four are Edgerrin James in 1999, Matt Forte in 2008, Doug Martin in 2012 and Ezekiel Elliot in 2016. Currently, Barkley is also trying to become just the third running back to finish a season with both 1,000 yards rushing and receiving. He’s on pace for 1,099 yards rushing and 969 yards receiver. It helps that he leads all backs with 61 targets. On the season, he’s averaging 321 points per game.

Fun with Facts: In my first 12 seasons in Robioland, I had a 1st-team back a solid seven times. However, I haven’t had one since Adrian Peterson back in 2010.

WR – Adam Thielen (Rich C) After earning third-team last year, I don’t know why I’m surprised to see Thielen this high up, but I certainly shouldn’t be. The Vikings star receiver has seven 100-yard games in seven games played, having scored in all but two of them. He’s on pace for 153 receptions and 1,878 yards. He’s averaging 278 fantasy points per game, which would be the most ever in this league’s history.

Fun with Facts: Wide receiver has sort of been Calderon’s hot spot. A third of his career 30 All-Robio players have been wide receivers.

WR – Tyreek Hill (Don) Because this wouldn’t be a proper All-Robio list if there weren’t multiple players on it that I gave away, I present to you Tyreek Hill, the guy I gave away for a running back who can’t stay on the field. Good times. Hill is only tied for 11th in receptions (41), but he’s fourth in yards, thanks to a solid 15.5 yard per catch average. He also leads all receivers with seven touchdowns, giving Don a solid 254 points per game.

Fun with Facts: Don’s last first-team All-Robio wide receiver was Calvin Johnson back in 2013. In total, he’s had four previously (Joe Horn in 2004, Terrell Owens in 2007, Greg Jennings in 2008 and Megatron in 2013).

TE – Zach Ertz (Matt) So far, Ertz is the only tight end to cross 600 yards (618), as he easily leads the league in targets (71) and receptions (57). In fact, he’s beating the next guy in catches by 19 on the year. With his stats, he would be the 10th best receiver in football.

Fun with Facts: This would be Matt’s first ever 1st-team All-Robio tight end. The only All-Robio tight end he’s ever had before Ertz last season earning third-team, was Tony Gonzalez back in 2011-2012.

PK – Harrison Barnes (Griff) Officially, the two top kickers in fantasy are not on anyone’s team, but free agents can’t win All-Robio awards. Oddly enough, Barnes is a bit of a surprise at the top spot. He’s only attempted 12 field goals and has yet to make one from over 50. Instead, he’s relying on a ton of extra points. He’s got 32 on the year, seven more than the next guy. He’s averaging 107 points per game.

Fun with Facts: We’ve had 19 seasons in this league, which means we have had 57 All-Robio kickers. The king of kickers is Griff, who has brought home eight, including four 1st-team kickers, three 2nd-team kickers and four more 3rd-team kickers.

DST – Ravens (Robio) I actually just picked up the Ravens DST a couple of weeks ago and nothing better than picking up a first-team All-Robio something. Anyhow, the Ravens D averages 165 points per game, thanks to a league high 27 sacks, giving up the third least amount of yards and the least amount of points.

Fun with Facts: The Ravens are kings of defensive All-Robio awards. They lead the league in most 1st-team awards with five and eight total, three ahead of the Steelers.

SECOND-TEAM

QB – Cam Newton (Rob M) – 353 PPG A bite of a surprise on this list, Newton has a pair of 400 points games and nearly two more. Again, he’s back doing it with his legs. He leads all quarterbacks with 257 yards rushing (almost five yards per carry) and has scored three times with his legs.

Fun with Facts: Great quarterbacks have never really been Rob’s thing. In fact, he’s never had a first-team All-Robio quarterback. The only All-Robio QB he has had was Drew Brees in 2013, who finished as a second teamer.

RB – Kareem Hunt (Rob M) After a slow start, Hunt has really picked up steam the last few weeks, finally producing in the league’s best offense. Currently, he’s averaging 297 points per contest. His 542 yards rushing is third behind Gurley and Elliot and his four receiving touchdowns is second only to James White. He’s looking to becom just the third back ever in this league to begin his career with back-to-back All-Robio awards. Edgerrin James began his career with back-to-back first-team awards in 1999-2000, while Adrian Peterson got two straight second-team awards in 2007-2008.

Fun with Facts: While Masterson has struggled to find elite quarterbacks, he has had no such problem finding elite backs. Since 2006 (12 seasons), he has produced two 1st-team backs, six 2nd-team backs and one third-team back, for a total of nine.

RB – Melvin Gordon (Jeff) If he hadn’t missed that game in London, the Chargers back would easily be a first-team All-Robio back. In his third straight season with Jeff, Gordon has proven to be one of the best keepers ever in this league. He’s already delivered a second-team and a third-team award and still has a shot at his first 1st-team award. After never averaging at least four yards per carry, he’s averaging 5.1 yards per rush this season. He also has 30 receptions and nine touchdowns, averaging 345 points per game.

Fun with Facts: If Gordon remains an All-Robio award winner this season, he becomes the 8th back in history to do it three straight seasons. He would become just the third back to spend three full seasons on one team (Jeff). The others are Tomlinson/Burrier (2003-2006), Foster/Griff (2010-12). Barber/Colby nearly had a three-year affair, but remember Barber was traded to Colby early in the season, thus came up one game short to be on this list.

WR – Emmanuel Sanders (Rich B) Right now, Sanders is one pace to have a career year in receptions (105) and second most yards for his career (1,378). He’s one of just six receivers with over 600 yards on the season.

Fun with Facts: Wide receiver has never been a Burrier strength. He’s never had a first-team All-Robio wideout and he’s had just two total All-Robio receivers. They were DeAndre Hopkins in 2015 and Ochocinco back in 2007. For his career, Rich has had only 13 skill players finish as a first-team or second-team All-Robio player and seven of those times were either Tomlinson or Gronkowski.

WR – Julio Jones (Eric) Julio continues to baffle the minds yet again. He’s second in receiver yards, with 812 yards. Yet, he has zero touchdowns. None. He’s had double-digit scores in a season just once (his second in the league) and he’s scored just three times in his last 23 regular season games.

Fun with Facts: If Jones can manage to secure an All-Robio this year, he will become the fifth wideout to do it four straight years. The others: Antonio Brown (2013-17), Calvin Johnson (2010-2013), Marvin Harrison (1999-2003) and Chad Johnson (2003-2007). It would also be the fourth straight year Eric has had an All-Robio receiver, after Antonio Brown went 1st-team three straight seasons.

TE – Travis Kelce (Colby) Strangely, Kelce could be doing so much better. He’s been tossed the ball 60 times, but has caught just 38 of them. Still, that’s good enough for second most receptions and yards by a tight end, averaging a solid 187 points per game.

Fun with Facts: Like quarterbacks, Colby went his entire career without a first-team All-Robio tight end, until last year, when Kelce earned the award. Now he has a shot to go back-to-back.

PK – Stephen Gostkowski (Eric) To the surprise of no one, Gostkowski is back on this list. He’s made 13 of 14 field goals and all 25 of his extra points, averaging 107 points per game.

Fun with Facts: The New England kicker has earned five All-Robio awards since entering the league. All five went to a Vozzola and four of those five went to Eric. 14% of all of Eric’s All-Robio player awards have been earned by Gostkowski.

DST – Rams (Colby) Strangely, the Rams are not great any one thing. In fact, they are not among the top five in turnovers, sacks or yards allowed categories, yet when it’s all added together, they’re the second best D, averaging 148 fantasy points per game.

Fun with Facts: The Rams defense has never earned an All-Robio award. Never. Ever. None. Zip. Nada.

THIRD-TEAM

QB – Matt Ryan (Rich C) The Falcons quarterback sneaks by Drew Brees for third-team, averaging 350 fantasy points per game. Do I get props for predicting this in my preseason All-Robio poll? Ryan leads the league in passing yards, thanks to having the best overall set of hands on the field with Julio, Ridley, Sanu, plus Coleman, who is a solid receiver out of the backfield.

Fun with Facts: Calderon once had the 1st-team All-Robio quarterback three years in a row (Brees, Brees and Rodgers, 2008-2010). That’s not relevant, but I thought you should know. He’s never had a second-team QB, but he did have a third-team arm two years ago. That was Matt Ryan.

RB – James Conner (Matt) Enjoy it folks, we might be looking at the greatest category three player ever. Right now, as he remains the starter in Pittsburgh, Conner is on pace for 1,893 total yards this season, averaging 308 fantasy points per game. If Bell doesn’t come back this season and is done in Pittsburgh, Neatock might be enjoying this guy’s numbers late in the draft until 2020.

Fun with Facts: Matt has had 38 All-Robio players. Of those 38, four were his first-round picks, nine were keepers, five he received in a trade and seven were drafted or kept by him after round nine.

RB – Alvin Kamara (Don) Through four weeks, the Saints back was the best back in football, averaging a stunning 405 points per game. He did most of his damage catching ball, actually getting more yards through the air (364) than on the ground (275). However, since Mark Ingram returned, the Saints have seemed to forget how to use him, as he’s combined for just 288 fantasy points in his last two. On the season, he’s averaging 273 fantasy points.

Fun with Facts: Although this would be kind of a cheat, since Don didn’t receive Kamara until late in the season last year, if Kamara can hold onto a All-Robio award, it would be the first time since Maurice Jones-Drew (2009-2010), Don has had a player go back-to-back All-Robio.

WR – DeAndre Hopkins (Rich C) The second All-Robio wide receiver for Calderon is on pace for over 100 receptions and nearly 1,600 yards, plus double digit scores.

Fun with Facts: Prior to 2008, Rich had no All-Robio wide receivers. However, starting with Megatron that year, he’s started to dominate the category. He’s had a All-Robio wideout every year but two (2013, 2015), producing nine total. If both Hopkins and Thielen earn the award this season, Rich becomes the first person to go back-to-back years with two All-Robio receivers.

WR – Robert Woods (Rob M) Here is probably our biggest surprise on this list. Woods, who played most of his career in Buffalo and one season in LA last year, has never caught more than 65 balls and he’s never even sniffed 800 yards receiver. Yet, this year, he’s blown all that away. He’s on pace for 94 receptions and nearly 1,400 yards. If he has one flaw, it’s that he’s only scored in two of his seven games. He’s currently averaging 223 points per contest.

Fun with Facts: Masterson is sort of the master of one-hit wonder receivers. Four previous receivers who have earned All-Robio awards for him, never to appear back on the list again. They are Javon Walker (2004), Sidney Rice (2009), Josh Gordon (2013) and Amari Cooper (2016). Perhaps he should avoid keeping Woods after this season. Those four players the following season finished with 46, 464, 390 and 1,306 fantasy points.

TE – George Kittle (Rich C) Takeaway kickers and defenses, Kittle is the only free agent skilled position player on this list. Let’s just say, best dollar Calderon has ever spent. Despite a downgrade at quarterback, Kittle is the sleeper that woke up. On the season, he only has 32 catches and two scores, but thanks to a stunning 16.5 yard per catch average, he’s third in yards, averaging a solid 170 fantasy points per game.

Fun with Facts: There was a time when Calderon dominated the tight end spot with Antonio Gates. Between 2004-2010, Rich had the best tight end in football with Gates. Since 2010 though, the only tight end to get an All-Robio award was Julian Thomas in 2013 (he earned third-team).

PK – Ka’imi Fairbairn (Don) Heading into Thursday’s night game against the Dolphins, Fairbairn was tied for the league lead in field goal attempts (20) and was second in made free throws (15). He’s also made all 20 of his extra points, averaging 104 points per contest.

Fun with Facts: Six of 22 of Don’s career All-Robio players have been kickers. That’s 27%, which is the highest percentage in the league. Probably not a proud stat.

DST – Texan (Jeff) The second defense to be on this list to be cut and added on by a new team. While they’re pretty solid about stopping the run (under 100 yards per game), the Texans do their damage with turnovers. They have forced ten fumbles, recovered seven of them, as well as seven interceptions. They average 129 points per game.

Fun with Facts: This would be the Texans second career All-Robio award. They earned a third-team award back in 2011 for Masterson. This would also be Jeff’s second career All-Robio defense. He had the Ravens back in 2016. They earned a 3rd-team award.
