Peyton Manning earns his first MVP award in Robioland after producing the second most points ever.
Like the NFL, we award our All-Robio awards when the regular season ends. Guess what just ended? So it’s time for the 2013 All-Robio First, Second and third team awards. Below you will see me reference “All-Robio points.” What this means is, I give 3 points for a first-team award, 2 for second team and 1 for one team. So if a player has two first-team awards and a third-team, he would have 7 points.
FIRST-TEAM ALL-ROBIO
QB – Peyton Manning (Broncos), Griff Manning earns a stunning 10th All-Robio award and his fourth first-teamer. The last time he was first-team was 2006. He averaged a solid 460 points per game, which are the second most points ever scored (just behind Aaron Rodgers’ 478 points in 2011). Manning delivers Griff his 16th first-team player, however, this is Griff’s first ever first-team quarterback.
RB – Jamaal Charles (Chiefs), Jeff First picks aren’t always easy to make, but Jeff nailed it this year. Charles becomes just the fourth 1st pick in the draft to ever earn a first-team All-Robio award. Charles was a stud all season, producing under 200 fantasy points just three times. He nearly hit 1,500 total yards in 12 games, delivering nine touchdowns, averaging 247 points per game.
RB – LeSean McCoy (Eagles), Rich C McCoy was the top dog early, delivering three 300+ games to start the season. He hit a bit of a dry patch mid-season, but since Foles has taken over as the full-time starter, he’s back putting up big numbers. He finished our regular season with the second most rushing yards, averaging 235 fantasy points per game. This is McCoy’s third All-Robio award and his second first-team award (his other was 2011). His 7 All-Robio points ties him for 8th with Arian Foster and Ray Rice. This is the sixth straight year Calderon has produced a first-team player, but this is the first time he’s ever had a first-team All-Robio running back.
WR – Calvin Johnson (Lions), Don Yeah, this should not be a surprise. Despite missing a game, Johnson still managed to lock down another first-team All-Robio award by averaging 285 points per game. In fact, he becomes the first non-kicker to earn a first-team award for three straight seasons (David Akers is the kicker who accomplished that). He remains fourth all-time in wide receiver All-Robio points, but is now just four points (one first-team and one third-team) behind the all-time leader Randy Moss.
WR – Josh Gordon (Browns), Rob M Yeah, didn’t really see this one coming. Coming off a NFL first, two straight 200+ receiving games, Josh Gordon actually matched Calvin Johnson with 285 points per game. If it wasn’t for his two game suspension, he would have been the best. For now, he’ll have to settle for his first 1st team All-Robio award. Rob has delivered four 1st team All-Robio running backs in his career, but this is his first 1st-team receiver.
TE – Jimmy Graham (Saints), Robio It wouldn’t be a first-team All-Robio without a player from my team. I’ve produced at least one first-teamer in 13 of my 15 years in this league. Graham has been stuck behind Rob Gronkowski the past two years, but thanks to Gronk’s injury, Graham was able to own the tight end spot. He averaged 213 points per game. Vernon Davis who finished second among tight ends averaged 42 points per game less.
PK – Stephen Gostkowski (Patriots), Eric Well, a first-team All-Robio kicker won’t make up for a lost season, but it’s something.
DST – Seattle DST (Seahawks), Bob Bob records three All-Robio players this year and two of them (Seahawks D and A.J. Green) were keepers. Good decision making, Bob. The ‘Hawks averaged 202 points per game, good enough to make them the 8th best running back in this league (if that’s how you like to judge your defenses).
SECOND-TEAM ALL-ROBIO
QB – Drew Brees (Saints), Rob M Brees earns his fifth All-Robio award and his third second-team award (the others were 2006 and 2011), putting him behind Peyton Manning on my All-Robio rankings list. He averaged a solid 417 points this season, which is his career high (according to my math). Now Masterson has had 18 All-Robio players prior to this year, but Brees is the first All-Robio quarterback.
RB – Adrian Peterson (Vikings), Molly It seemed like a bad year for Peterson, but I guess that’s what happens when you’re Purple Jesus. A.P. actually leads the league in rushing, with over 1,200 so far on the season, averaging 226 fantasy points per game. By earning his sixth All-Robio award, he’s now just two All-Robio points behind LaDainian Tomlinson for top All-Robio running back. This is the second straight year Peterson has delivered an All-Robio award to Molly, who last had a second-team All-Robio back in 2009 with Matt Forte.
RB – Matt Forte (Bears), Matt Speaking of Matt Forte, Matt Neatock had some tough choices with the fourth pick, but he certainly made a right one. Forte averaged 226 points per game, producing over 1,400 total yards and eight touchdowns. This is Forte’s third All-Robio award since 2008. Of course we shouldn’t be too surprised by this. Matt has lived off All-Robio backs. This is Matt’s 11 All-Robio running back since he joined the league in 2003.
WR – Alshon Jeffery (Bears), Colby Colby traded away a stud tight end to get him, but Jeffery has turned out to be pretty damn good. After rocking out a 592-point game this past weekend, he earns second-team All-Robio, his first award obviously. This is Colby’s second straight Chicago Bears’ All-Robio second-team receiver. Last year it was Brandon Marshall.
WR – Demaryius Thomas (Broncos), Matt Matt didn’t get Thomas until week ten, but the rule states whoever has him last gets the All-Robio credit. Thomas was a bit inconsistent early, but he only produced when Matt got him. This is Thomas’ second straight second-team All-Robio award and Matt’s first All-Robio receiver since Greg Jennings earned third-team in 2011.
TE – Vernon Davis (49ers), Griff With no Michael Crabtree, Colin Kaepernick had no choice by to throw to Davis. He averaged a solid 171 points per game, earning his third second-team All-Robio award (2009 & 2010 were his two others). This is the second straight year Griff has produced a All-Robio tight end. He had Jimmy Graham earning a second-team award last year.
PK – Steven Hauschka (Seahawks), Griff Griff gets the credit, but in reality Hauschka was a week 13 pick up. Masterson had him for seven weeks, before he went on his bye. However, if Rob wanted the All-Robio award, then he should have just benched him.
DST – Carolina DST (Panthers), Rich C A week-five free agent pick up in week five, the Panthers have broken 200 six times this season. Unfortunately for Rich, Carolina faces the Saints in two of our playoff weeks. Can he really play them in those games?
THIRD-TEAM ALL-ROBIO
QB – Matthew Stafford (Lions), Jeff Thankfully Matt decided to keep David Wilson instead of Matt Stafford and the league, especially Jeff, is thankful. Stafford struggled to not turn the ball over (14 interceptions on the season), yet he still threw nearly 4,000 yards and 28 touchdowns in 12 games, producing 367 fantasy points per game. This is Stafford’s first All-Robio award and Jeff’s second this season, which is impressive since Jeff had just one (Randy Moss in 2009) prior to the season.
RB – Knowshon Moreno (Broncos), Robio He wasn’t projected to be the starter in Denver, so he went undrafted and I picked him up in week two. Thank God, because Lamar Miller was quite the bust. Moreno never surrender the top spot and averaged a career best 224 points per game. He’s the 15th running back I’ve had that’s ended up either first, second or third team All-Robio
RB – Marshawn Lynch (Seahawks), Robio And here’s number sixteen. Yep, in a year that was about anything but running backs, I’m the only person to end up with two All-Robio running backs on his roster. This is Lynch’s second career All-Robio award.
WR – A.J. Green (Bengals), Bob This is the fifth straight year Bob has come through with a All-Robio wide receiver (Andre Johnson in 2009, Brandon Lloyd in 2010, Mike Wallace 2011, A.J. Green 2012 & 2013).
WR – Antonio Brown (Steelers), Griff Now here’s a surprise…Brown finally lived up to some hype and delivered his first All-Robio award. Of course, picking All-Robio receivers has not been Griff’s signature accomplishment. He has delivered just two since 2009 (Wes Welker, 2nd team in 2011 was the other).
TE – Julius Thomas (Broncos), Rich C Calderon has three All-Robio players total in 2013. What’s most impressive is that two of them were free agent pick ups (Carolina’s D and Thomas).
PK – Justin Tucker (Ravens), Bob He’s been solid over the last month, including a 240-point effort in week 13, giving Tucker his first All-Robio award.
DST – Kansas City DST (Chiefs), Colby The Chiefs D have scored just 27 and -60 over the last two weeks and hasn’t broken 200 since week six, but this just shows you how good their start to the season was. They averaged a solid 175 on the season, just beating the 49ers D, another of Colby’s DST’s.
