2009 Post-Mock Write-Up

I did the full 15-round mock draft, here is the mock team Analysis. Enjoy.

MATT NEATOCK

STARTERS QB – Aaron Rogers (GB) RB – Adrian Peterson (MIN) RB – Brian Westbrook (PHI) WR – Tj Houshmandzadeh (SEA) WR – Wes Welker (NE) TE – Greg Olsen (CHI) PK – Jason Elam (ATL) DST – Patriots (NE)

BENCH QB – Kyle Orton (DEN) RB – Donald Brown (IND) RB – Maurice Morris (DET) WR – Lee Evans (BUF) WR – Jeremy Maclin (PHI) WR – Jordy Nelson (GB) DST – Dolphins (MIA)

OVERALL – It all starts in the backfield. If both can remain healthy…and yes, that’s along shot for Westbrook (Right), this could be one of the top-five best backfields ever in Robioland. Rogers is a solid arm, while Welker should produce his usual 8-10 catches for 70 yards (and TD every other game). Look for Olsen to finally become top-ten, giving Matt a legit title contender.

X-FACTOR – T.J. Houshmandzadeh. Chad Johnson absolutely killed Matt last season. Welker is good, but he’s no number one. Matt needs a big pair of hands to bring home some bacon. T.J. is out of Cincy and on to Seattle, who’s been dying for an elite receiver since Steve Largent.

BENCH – Obviously, the highlight is Maclin (who in reality probably won’t last to the 9th), but the concern is lack of insurance. In my mock, Matt fails to land McCoy (Westbrook’s backup) and Taylor (Peterson’s backup). Matt also failed to grab any legit starting backs for the pine. However, Donald Brown could be this season’s Joseph Addai, which is ironic since he now backs up Addai.

2010 KEEPERS – D. Brown (4th), J. Maclin (9th)

ROB MASTERSON

STARTERS QB – Philip Rivers (SD) RB – James Stewart (CAR) RB – Pierre Thomas (NO) WR – Larry Fitzgerald (ARI) WR – Brandon Marshall (DEN) TE – Kellen Winslow (TB) PK – David Ackers (PHI) DST – Chargers (SD)

BENCH RB – Darren McFadden (OAK) RB – LeSean McCoy (PHI) RB – Rashard Mendenhall (PIT) RB – Justin Fargas (OAK) WR – Santana Moss (WR) WR – Justin Gage (WR) WR – Laurent Robinson (WR)

OVERALL – While Rob uses his first pick to grab the best WR, Fitgerald (right) in the league, he’s actually has three legit starters at RB, plus the league’s best receiver, along with a stat grabbing QB. There are tons of questions of course. Is Thomas Legit? Can you survive with three RB’s who all split time and will never see 20+ carries in a game? How will Marshall respond to a new QB in Denver? Can Winslow still be a star in TB? Would Masterson really grab a QB that early?

X-FACTOR – Darren McFadden. For now, I have him on the bench, but in reality, he’s the most talented of the bunch. If he can come out and play like a top-pick should play and remain healthy, it frees up what Masterson can do.

BENCH – Obviously, McFadden is the star-in-waiting, but he’s got two future keeper options in both McCoy and Mendenhall. Fargas is just solid relief if McFadden goes down. Masterson’s starting receivers are strong, so he grabs three backups, none worth starting, but all could fill in during a bye-week and give him 70 yards and a TD.

2010 KEEPERS – J. Stewart (3rd), Pierre Thomas (7th), L. Robinson (15th)

GRIFF COOMER

STARTERS QB – Matt Schaub, (HOU) RB – Frank Gore (SF) RB – Larry Johnson (KC) WR – Roddy White (ATL) WR – Terrell Owens (BUF) TE – Jason Witten (DAL) PK – Nick Folk (DAL) DST – Bears (CHI)

BENCH QB – Joe Flacco (BAL) RB – Ryan Grant (GB) RB – Jamaal Charles (KC) RB – Tashard Choice (DAL) WR – Ted Ginn Jr. (MIA) WR – Brian Robiskie (CLE) WR – Donnie Avery (STL)

OVERALL – A risky bunch to say the least…but I’ll say more. While Grant is probably a smart keep, he’s not a fantasy starter today, so Griff is smart to land LJ too. He can switch Johnson and Grant based on match up, until one proves his worth. Owens (right) is in a new home, so he should be on his best behavior for at least most of the year. Still, if Gore, Johnson, Grant and even the Bears defense all don’t play better than they did last year, it might be a tough year again for Coomer.

X-FACTOR – Larry Johnson. He turns thirty this year, but he didn’t start his first couple seasons, so he should still have something in the tank. He just needs to get his head right. With a new coach and new quarterback, maybe he can return to 1,400-yard status.

BENCH – With Grant, you get a legit NFL starter, which is something a lot of teams will fail to get. Also, a lot of young receivers who could become stars one day. Avery is now the man alone in St. Louis and could start if anything happens to Owens or White. Last year, Schaub put up big numbers, but struggled to stay on the field. Flacco is a decent backup, but his numbers will need to improve.

2010 KEEPERS – R. White (5th), D. Avery (7th), Joe Flacco (11th)

RICHARD BURRIER

STARTERS QB – Matt Cassel (KC) RB – Michael Turner (ATL) RB – Marion Barber (DAL) WR – Vincent Jackson (SD) WR – Braylon Edwards (CLE) TE – Kevin Boss (NYG) PK – Ryan Longwell (MIN) DST – Giants (NY)

BENCH QB – Shaun Hill (SF) RB – Tim Hightower (ARI) RB – Fred Taylor (NE) RB – Jerious Norwood (ATL) WR – Laveranues Coles (NYJ) WR – Derrick Mason (BAL) TE – Jeremy Shockey (NO)

OVERALL – It’s hard to argue with the running game. Turner and Barber are both ‘Burrier’ Bruisers, who score and get most of their team’s carries. The Giants D is a great get and should take care of that position, but the tight end spot is not one that would scare many opponents. Also, because Burrier basically had no keepers (Turner was a second-round pick), he had to reach at receiver. Jackson is good, but he’ll never dominate. He’s a No 2 at best. However, Edwards was a stud, just two years ago. If he can return to his 2007 numbers, then Burrier might, just might, return to the playoffs.

X-FACTOR – Matt Cassel. He’s a reach, but you know those Patriots fans…they all think they can find hidden talent. Here’s the deal, Cassell put up some pretty solid numbers (a couple 400-point games in fact), but that was in New England. There is no Randy Moss or Wes Welker in Kansas City.

BENCH – Decent, but not super. Hightower will battle Beanie Wells for carries in the desert, but even if Fred Taylor starts in New England, the backfield is more crowded than Masterson’s child-sized shirt. Personally, I wouldn’t be happy if I had to start either Coles or Mason as receivers, but they can both be solid bye-week replacements.

2010 KEEPERS – M. Turner (2nd), T. Hightower (6th), S. Hill (13th)

ERIC VOZZOLA

STARTERS QB – Tony Romo (DAL) RB – Steven Jackson (STL) RB – Marshawn Lynch (BUF) WR – Santonio Holmes (PIT) WR – Lance Moore (NO) TE – Dustin Keller (NYJ) PK – Neil Rackers (ARI) DST – Titans (TEN)

BENCH RB – Knowshon Moreno (DEN) RB – Jamal Lewis (CLE) RB – Fred Jackson (BUF) RB – Ricky Williams (MIA) WR – Anthony Gonzalez (IND) WR – Darr Heyward-Bey (OAK) TE – Vernon Davis (SF)

OVERALL – In reality, this is probably not the team Eric is hoping to land. Obviously if healthy, Romo (left) is a fantasy stud, and when Lynch comes back, both he and Jackson could be a solid combo, but the receiving core is a huge question mark, as is Keller. Not sure I’d want to walk into 2009 with these Holmes, Moore and Keller as my starters. After a solid Superbowl, Holmes may be ready for that breakout season, or he could revert to his regular season self. Also, the Titans D doesn’t scare me with their man-in-the-middle gone to D.C.

X-FACTOR – Steve Jackson. Every team needs a star and right now, Eric doesn’t have one. Jackson was the second pick in last year’s draft, but his season crumbled as the Rams did. He’s still so young and he’s oh so talented. If the Rams can figure out their O-line issues, Jackson could return to top-five status.

BENCH – I actually like the bench a lot, and I wouldn’t be shocked if three of these guys open up as starters in week one. First, Lynch is out, so either Jackson (Lynch’s backup) or Moreno will certainly be starting. Gonzalez moves into Harrison’s spot with the Colts, so you could argue he’s better than both Holmes and Moore. Also, will this be the year Davis finally busts out?

2010 KEEPERS – K. Moreno (4th), A. Gonzalez (6th), V. Davis (13th)

JEFF GREENBLATT

STARTERS QB – Tom Brady (NE) RB – Brandon Jacobs (NYG) RB – Ernest Graham (TB) WR – Dwayne Bowe (KC) WR – Eddie Royals (DEN) TE – Owen Daniels (HOU) PK – Rob Gould (CHI) DST – Eagles (PHI)

BENCH QB – Matt Hasselback (SEA) RB – Darren Sproles (SD) RB – Ahmad Bradshaw (NYG) WR – Nate Washington (TEN) WR – Percy Harvey (MIN) WR – Steve Smith (NYG) WR – Nate Burleson (SEA)

OVERALL – A steady group, but I wouldn’t expect too many 1,500-point games from this squad. Both Jacobs and Graham can get the job done when healthy, despite sharing the load. However, neither will ever be mistaken as ‘All-Robio’ players. The receiving core is a huge question mark. Both Bowe and Royals are talented (in fact, Bowe could be a top-ten guy), but both have new quarterbacks throwing the ball this year. Daniels is usually mentioned in the same breath as elite tight ends, but his stats say otherwise. Also, can Jeff really live with the Eagles defense?

X-FACTOR – Tom Brady. Coming off an ACL injury isn’t easy, so in reality, we have no clue what we’re getting here. If you’re using a third-round pick to keep a QB, you better be getting a ‘All-Robio’ candidate. One question though, with all the shit Romo takes about not winning a title thanks to Jessica Simpson, does anyone point out that Brady is title-less since Giselle entered his already perfect life?

BENCH – Smart to land some insurance with Bradshaw, and stealing Sproles away from Bob could be a solid move. Hasselback won’t ever play, but if Brady’s leg doesn’t hold up, Hasselback is healthy. I got Jeff grabbing four receivers, since that is his weakest spot, but only Nate Washington has a chance to really breakout. Smith and Burleson are bye-week specialist only. Percy could be a solid practice player.

2010 KEEPERS – E. Royals (4th), N. Washington (9th), Percy Harvey (11th)

BOB CASTRONE

STARTERS QB – Kurt Warner (SD) RB – Chris Johnson (TEN) RB – LaDain Tomlinson (SD) WR – Marques Colston (NO) WR – Anquan Boldin (WR) TE – Chris Cooley (TE) PK – Adam Vinatieri (PK) DST – Ravens (BAL)

BENCH QB – Eli Manning (NYG) RB – Derrick Ward (TB) RB – Ray Rice (BAL) RB – Michael Bush (OAK) WR – Michael Crabtree (SF) WR – Torry Holt (JAX) TE – Anthony Fasano (MIA)

OVERALL – A ton of big names on the roster, but certainly a older, wiser bunch. Front and center of course is Chris Johnson (right). He’s a stud and he will produce. Bob should also be set at WR with both Boldin and Colston; two solid stars playing on the league’s two best offensive teams. Warner of course is not getting younger, but even if he slouches a little this season, he’s still better than 90% of the league. Of course, Cooley will need to improve his numbers and the Ravens D needs to prove that their numbers had nothing to do with coach Rex Ryan.

X-FACTOR – LaDain Tomlinson. Was it really a mystery? He’s getting up there in age. That is true. He’s about to turn the corner on productivity. Also true, but does he have one more in him? Last year, he was hampered by a bad toe and even young backs can’t recover from that (just ask Marion Barber). The toe is suppose to be all better, so why can’t LT produce 1,300 hard earned yards?

BENCH – The lack of true league starters in his backfield is a little worrisome. Ward will get plenty of touches, but both Rice and Bush will need someone to go down (or falter) to get enough playing time. Eli is a smart backup choice. There will be times when it will be smart to bench Warner, so hopefully Eli will offer up a better match up. Bob will only grab three pair of hands as backups, but I love all three. Crabtree will be a star soon enough and I think Holt heading to the Sunshine state will motivate him to forget last year’s crap of a season. I even think Fasano might be starting over Cooley by mid-season.

2010 KEEPERS – A. Boldin (3rd), C. Johnson (7th), D. Ward (13th)

RICH CALDERON

STARTERS QB – Drew Brees (NO) RB – Steve Slaton (HOU) RB – Kevin Smith (DET) WR – Andre Johnson (HOU) WR – DeSean Jackson (PHI) TE – Antonio Gates (SD) PK – Shayne Graham (CIN) DST – Jets (NY)

BENCH RB – Lendale White (TEN) RB – Chester Taylor (MIN) RB – LeRon McClain (BAL) RB – Brandon Jackson (GB) WR – Jerricho Cotchery (NYJ) WR – Devery Henderson (NO) WR – Plaxico Burress (N/A)

OVERALL – For a man who struggled for years to find star power for his teams, Calderon is loaded with potential ‘All-Robio’ players. In fact, Brees (left), Johnson and Gates are all top-three at their position, and Slaton is no slouch. He will crack the top-ten among backs. Of course this doesn’t mean he’s guaranteed a championship. There are two risk factors for Calderon. First, post-MVP blues, be afraid…be very afraid. Second, sophomore slumps. As rookies, Slaton was great, Smith and Jackson were good. All three could improve this season or all three could hit a sophomore slump. Rich could be taking a huge risk with so much youth.

X-FACTOR – Kevin Smith – Because so many solid backs will be kept, we’re the only league where Smith could go as high as the second round (hell, he could go first round). He looked good down the stretch (reminding me of a young Emmitt Smith in his first year in Dallas). If he can crack the top-ten, Calderon is an elite team.

BENCH – A solid bench, at least with backs. White could start for a lot of teams, while getting Taylor is a smart move, since Peterson is always an injury risk. If Grant falls in Green Bay, Jackson will be next in line. The receivers don’t scare me, but it will be interesting if Plaxico lands somewhere. Could end up a steal.

2010 KEEPERS – D. Jackson (5th), S. Slaton (10th), P. Burress (14th)

COLBY HALL

STARTERS QB – Peyton Manning (IND) RB – Joseph Addai (IND) RB – Thomas Jones (NYJ) WR – Randy Moss (NE) WR – Bernard Berrian (MIN) TE – John Carlson (SEA) PK – Nate Kaeding (SD) DST – Steelers (PIT)

BENCH RB – Felix Jones (DAL) RB – Willis McGahee (BAL) RB – Correll Buckhalter (DEN) WR – Devon Hester (CHI) WR – Chris Chambers (SD) WR – Issac Bruce (SF) WR – Patrick Crayton (DAL)

OVERALL – Ugh. I don’t think Colby will be happy with this bunch. Manning is still solid, but his best days are behind him. You have to believe last year was Thomas Jones’ best year and if Addai was really worthy, the Colts wouldn’t have drafted Brown. Randy Moss should be back with Brady throwing the ball, but is Berrian really a starter? We don’t even know who the QB is? Look for Carlson to be a top TE sleeper this season and the Steelers D will keep you in a lot of games by themselves.

X-FACTOR – Felix Jones. Yeah, I went there. Sure, he’s on Colby’s bench, but in reality, he’s his best back. In my mind, he’s just as good as Forte or Chris Johnson. It’s just that Dallas didn’t use him properly and then he got hurt. Felix and Barber have the potential of being this years best thunder and lighting running back duo.

BENCH – A decent bench, strong at RB, thanks to Jones and McGahee. With McClain going to fullback in Baltimore, McGahee has to just share the backfield with Ray Rice. These two backs could easily be starting by week two for Colby. Chambers and Bruce are both solid veterans, while Crayton is penciled in at No 2 again in Dallas.

2010 KEEPERS – J. Addai (3rd), F. Jones (9th)

MOLLY COOMER

STARTERS QB – Jay Cutler (CHI) RB – Clinton Portis (WAS) RB – Matt Forte (CHI) WR – Steve Smith (CAR) WR – Roy E. Williams (DAL) TE – Dallas Clark (IND) PK – Mason Crosby (GB) DST – Redskins (WAS)

BENCH QB – Matt Stafford (DET) RB – Reggie Bush (NO) RB – Sammy Morris (NE) WR – Steve Breaston (ARI) WR – Kevin Walter (HOU) WR – Chris Henry (CIN) DST – Panthers (CAR)

OVERALL – A combination of extreme talent, but also some big question marks. First, the talent. Forte (left) and Steve Smith are both top-three guys at their positions. Obviously, Cutler should be in that group, but can he do what he didin Denver, in Chicago? That’s why he’s in the ‘Big Question’ category along with Portis and Roy E. Williams. While I’m not excited about the Redskins defense, if Cutler can produce and Portis can stay healthy, Molly will be in this thing again.

X-FACTOR – Roy E. Williams. He was a stud in Detroit, but lost his top dog spot to Calvin Johnson. Once in Dallas, he bombed, never able to escape Owens’ shadow. Now Terrell is gone and Romo and Williams have been hitting the practice field together. If he can become a top-12 receiver, that gives Molly two number one’s.

BENCH – Obviously, if Bush really does fall as far as I predicted, he’s a great bench player, especially with Portis’ health issues. Molly has three receivers on the bench. Breaston is the most consistent and could be a solid bye-week replacement, however Henry has the best potential to be a solid number two, with T.J. Housh gone in Cincy.

2010 KEEPERS – J. Cutler (5th), M. Forte (6th), C. Henry (15th)

ROBIO MURRAY

STARTERS QB – Matt Ryan (ATL) RB – DeAngelo Williams (CAR) RB – Willie Parker (PIT) WR – Reggie Wayne (IND) WR – Calvin Johnson (DET) TE – Tony Gonzalez (ATL) PK – Rob Bironas (TEN) DST – Cowboys (DAL)

BENCH QB – Matt Sanchez (NYJ) QB – Carson Palmer (CIN) RB – Chris Wells (ARI) RB – Julius Jones (SEA) RB – Shonn Greene (NYJ) WR – Hakeem Nicks (NYG) WR – Antonio Bryant (TB)

OVERALL – Overall, I’m not happy with my results. I’m happy with my receivers, but we have to assume DeAngelo will not produce what he did last year, that means Parker is a huge risk to have in as a starter. In reality, I’m probably going to have to take a RB earlier. Of course, I need Ryan and Gonzalez to become best buddies in Atlanta for me to have any kind of success.

X-FACTOR – Matt Ryan. He was the 12th best quarterback last year. That’s great for a rookie quarterback. However, that’s not good enough to win fantasy championships. If Ryan were to take a step back, I’d be in trouble. However, if he can continue to improve and move up 5-6 spots, then daddy will be real happy.

BENCH – Obviously, too many rookies, especially late. If I’m really keeping Ryan for three more years, then I don’t need to waste late picks on players like Sanchez. While I don’t like having Jones, I love having Chris Wells. He could be a good get late in the draft. The person I can’t forget to discuss is Bryant. He had a career year last season. In fact, he was the best pair of hands in the league in the final eight weeks. Great insurance for me as a backup WR, or a third WR if Parker goes down.

2010 KEEPERS – D. Williams (5th), S. Greene (9th), Matt Ryan (15th)

DON VOZZOLA

STARTERS QB – Donovan McNabb (PHI) RB – Maurice Jones-Drew (JAX) RB – Ronnie Brown (MIA) WR – Greg Jennings (GB) WR – Chad Ochocino (CIN) TE – Visanthe Shiancoe (MIN) PK – Stephen Gostkowski (NE) DST – Vikings (MIN)

BENCH QB – Josh Freeman (TB) RB – Cedric Benson (CIN) RB – Lawrence Maroney (NE) RB – Greg Jones (JAX) WR – Hines Ward (PIT) WR – Deion Branch (SEA) TE – Heath Miller (PIT)

OVERALL – This teams feels a lot like last years team, starting of course with Jones-Drew, McNabb , Jennings and who can forget, Gostkowski. The difference is, Don replaces one WR with a bad attitude, with another, and he adds homerpick, RonnieBrown, who could be a solid No 2 back, now that the ACL tear is two years removed. If there was one concern, it looks like Jones-Drew (right) will be on the Madden cover. Should we be taking bets on when MJD ends up on the IR?

X-FACTOR – Chad Ochocino. The one consistent in Don’s two title runs was Owens. Sure, he wasn’t always the best player (especially last year), but he was there and you have to give him credit. Ochocino is coming off his worse season, but he seems to be happy and Palmer is healthy. Can he be a good as Owens? If so, watch out.

BENCH – A lot of potential on this bench. Both Benson and Maroney could be solid backs come Robioland playoff time, right when Don gets hot. Greg Jones is great insurance for Jones-Drew. While Ward and Branch aren’t sexy, they are great backups for bye weeks.

2010 KEEPERS – R. Brown (2nd), Josh Freeman (15th)
