2008 Rob Masterson Predictions

Robert Masterson, he’s smart, he’s married, he’s from New Jersey and he wears small shirts that even Colby’s youngest child would consider too small. However, in ’08 Masterson added “Nosterdomis” to his already impressive resume. Below you can find all of Rob Masterson’s predictions and thoughts heading into the 2008 season.

QUARTER POUNDERS (HALL/GREENBLATT) You can’t argue about their solid #1-2 punch at RB. It’s the best in the league. Housh is definitely a top 5 WR – probably even more so now with CJ playing the season with a torn up shoulder. However- Derek Anderson is a question mark. He was very pedestrian down the stretch last year (more ints then tds) and he comes into this season with concussion issues, while the rest of the Browns are already banged up. I don’t think he’s a top 8 QB this year, and that Garrard will turn out to be very nice insurance. Cooley is adequate at TE – he’ll post a few multi TD games, and disappear in most others. I have little faith in Burleson/Mason/ Evans to hold down the #2 WR with any consistancy. It will be a ‘cross my fingers and hope i pick the right guy to start’ every week for QP. OVERALL – definitely playoff team, championship contender. The RBs will carry this team.

THE SWAMP (E. VOZZOLA) Talk about question marks. McGahee is fresh off of surgery to clean up his knee- routine, for sure, but still there have been reports of him showing up to camp overweight and slow to grasp the new playbook. Rice will take away some carries.. Not to mention he’s playing on a QB-less team. Not promising – and you’re counting on him to be your #1 back? Good luck. L White will be splitting carries, and who knows what weeks Denver decides to use S Young 20-25 times? At WR, Fitz will be solid, as usual. But Steve Smith? Boom or bust. In short, Romo will be Romo, but he’ll need Young and Smith to have solid years. It could happen, but I wouldn’t bet on it. OVERALL – probable playoff team, early exit. too many things need to go right- team could self destruct a la Boyz of 2005

ADAM JONES (MURRAY) I like your RB situation. Westbrook is a given, and I think Kevin Smith will surprise some people. I also like Ricky down in Miami – Brown is freshly removed from a torn ACL, and reports are he’s not close to 100%. ACLs are kind of huge for RBs. Your WRs, while seemingly solid, don’t excite me. Johnson plus old men Holt and Gonzalez- they won’t be the #2 WR scoring tandem like you predict, but they’ll be adequate. Again, you load up solid Ds, which will give you some nice matchups. Your QBs will be mediocre. OVERALL – playoff squad – early exit.

THE GRIFTERS (G. COOMER) a lot riding on two RBs who missed much of training camp. I don’t think this will hurt SJAX too much, but I have a feeling Grant will be a let down this year. New QB, Brandon Jackson getting some looks – Grant will still be a decent #2, but not the guy he was in 2007. I love Reggie Wayne, I don’t like Roddy White as much with a rookie QB. Again, another guy who’s #s will go down in 2008. You have the best TE in the league, and great RB depth, which you’ll probably end up using to trade for a real NFL QB. OVERALL – playoffs, with Schaub stepping up or another QB in the mix, could contend.

BACKSTREET BOYZ (MASTERSON) Addai isn’t flashy, but he’s consistant – he wont have too many 300 point games, but will get his yards, and the occasional TD. Bush is a question mark – but huge upside for a #2 RB/bench warmer. Moss will not come close to last year’s #s, but still should be a top #3 WR. Edwards and Marshall are top 10 WRs who could each be #1s for a number of other teams. Big Ben is another solid, non flashy QB who should be among the best after the top 4 (Manning, Brady, Brees, Romo). McFadden provides some nice depth/upside. Vernon Davis is another question mark, as is defense. The Jets will be vastly improved, but enough so to be a solid fantasy option? I’m saying yes. OVERALL – most firepower in the league will overshadow question marks. Contending for the championship.

YANKEE KILLAZ (HIGHTOWER) For this team to compete, Brady must match his 2007 record shattering season. He will not. Roy Williams, Coles and Moss gives you a bunch of #2/3 guys at WR. At RB Graham is a decent under the radar option.. but Julius Jones sucks. 65 yards and no TDs isn’t want you want out of your #1st round pick. Nice TE sleeper, and the Bears D will have to help carry your team. OVERALL – wins a few games behind Brady/Bears D going off, but misses the playoffs.

THE ANOMALY (M. COOMER) I see a Cotchery/Colston/Holmes trifecta in your 2008 starting lineup, and I wouldnt be surprised to see them match my Moss/Edwards/Marshall #s. Portis is a solid RB, Maroney isn’t. You have a solid defense, and a nice QB in Cutler. Dallas Clark will put up some nice weeks, and despite what Murray says, Dustin Keller will be solid from year 1. OVERALL – playoff team – contender for the championship.

G.I.L.F. (NEATOCK) This draft would had looked a lot better in June. Chad Johnson is pretty banged up, and I’d be shocked to see him approach his past #s, if he even gets through the season. Brown won’t be the starting RB in Miami. You need Taylor/James to step up. They won’t. Obviously Peterson will put up some monster games, Welker will have another good year, and Palmer will be solid.. but otherwise, not a lot to be excited about. Miller was great value, but still only an average fantasy TE. OVERALL – playoff contender – could squeeze in and make an early exit.

ROBOT SEX (CALDERON) A lot of old men. Some will do better than expected (L Johnson, Harrison), some won’t (Lewis) Love Brees and Calvin Johnson this year. Bowe is a solid #2 guy. Not sold on Olsen, but Giants D will be strong even without their #1 pass rusher. If Stewart can become the main man in Carolina this year (my thoughts are we wont) then you could make a serious run. OVERALL – playoff contender – but falls short.

GREASY ONION BOOTY (CASTRONE) Manning, Gates, and a whole lotta fags. Actually, Boldin will be fine despite the pre-season drama (but he’s not a #1 WR), and I think DeAngelo Williams will be better than people expect. Even so, Parker is fading, fast, and your #2 WRs suck, as in glory hole suck. OVERALL – Misses playoffs, even with Manning and Gates scoring 700 a week.

JOHN MAYER (BURRIER) I think Murray was way too hard on your team. Barber will be a stud this year, and Gore can’t possibly be worse than last year.. can he? Turner is nice depth, and between the 3, you’ll be able to trade to round out your team. I never like Burress, but he’s a decent high #2 guy. Clayton and Driver both are consistant plays. Eli will be a decent QB option all year long, and I expect Shockey to be a top 5 TE in that offense. OVERALL – solid, if not flashy, team. Playoffs is a definite possibility.

GATOR NATION (D. VOZZOLA) You’ll need some help to contend this year – namely, either Rudi to reclaim the Cinny backfield, or Grant and/or Peterson to go down injured. Otherwise, your Jones/Drew and your Rudi/C Taylor/Jackson RB committee spells trouble, especially since you’re only 2 deep at WR with Owens and Jennings. I do think Walter could end up being a nice pick, but he’s not someone i’d want to have to rely on starting. Solid D, but question marks in McNabb and Heap. OVERALL – falls short of playoffs
