2008 Post-Draft Mock Draft

As we all know, I decided not to release a mock draft. However, it doesn’t mean I still didn’t do one. In fact, I did a half dozen of them (including one with Calderon). Anyhow, the night before the draft I did one final mock draft and now that the draft is over, I’m prepared to share it with you, the common folk. You can be the judge and decide if you ended up with a better team than the one I thought you would end up with.

Below you will find the player I thought you would draft, my reasons why and on the right, the player you actually drafted. The bold players are the ones I got right, the player’s in red are the keepers. It’s probably not a good sign when I only got three correct in the first round.

ROUND ONE

#1 Colby L. Tomlinson, RB Yep, I’m a genius. I saw this coming. Actual Pick: L. Tomlinson

#2 Griff Steven Jackson, RB I was a little worried about the hold out, but there was no other option really. Actual Pick: Steven Jackson

#3 Robio Brian Westbrook, RB (K) A keeper Brian Westbrook

#4 Rob M Frank Gore, RB And this is where all hell broke loose. I figured Rob would have learned from last year and there was no way he was passing up on a potential all-top-ten backfield of Addai and Gore. I was wrong. Actual Pick: Randy Moss

#5 Rich B Randy Moss, WR Even if Rich needed a running back, I did not see him passing up the ultimate homer pick Actual Pick: Frank Gore

#6 Molly Larry Johnson There is where I had no clue. The next half dozen backs were all the same. LJ was the only one who’s ever been an elite back in the past (only two years ago). Actual Pick: Clinton Portis

#7 Eric Clinton Portis I figured Eric would go running back, but I was wrong. He has more faith in Selvin Young than I do. Actual Pick: Larry Fitzgerald

#8 Don Maurice Jones-Drew I think he’s still not starting, but he should be. Don is set at receiver, so this is an obvious choose. Actual Pick: M. Jones-Drew

#9 Bob Reggie Bush Bob nearly kept him over Manning, so I figured he must like the kid…or at least his girlfriend. Actual Pick: Willie Parker

#10 David Jamal Lewis With Tom Brady already sitting in the third, Dave just needs a smart, safe pick Actual Pick: Julius Jones

#11 Rich C Larry Fitzgerald With the elite backs gone and the next half dozen all about the same, I figured Rich would roll the dice and hope one falls a round later. Actual Pick: Larry Johnson

#12 Matt Willie McGahee I had Matt taking a wideout in most of my personal mocks, but in the end, I didn’t see him passing up a top-twelve back to put along Peterson. Actual Pick: Chad Johnson

ROUND TWO

#13 Matt Adrian Peterson, RB (K) A keeper. Adrian Peterson

#14 Rich C Laurence Maroney, RB I had Rich taking McFadden in every, single mock draft, but I changed my mind in the last second. Maroney has not lived up to the hype just yet, but for some reason, I had Calderon going for him here. Actual Pick: Jamal Lewis

#15 David TJ Houshmandzadeh, WR Dave’s all set at QB and two running backs, so one would think he’d grab an elite receiver. Actual Pick: Roy Williams

#16 Bob Peyton Manning, QB (K) A keeper Peyton Manning

#17 Don Terrell Owens, WR (K) A keeper Terrell Owens

#18 Eric Andre Johnson, WR I figured Eric would go RB/WR, but instead he went WR/RB. In the end, I think he made the right call. Actual Pick: Willie McGahee

#19 Molly D. McFadden, RB Someone would need to take a chance on the rookie. Actual Pick: Laurence Maroney

#20 Rich B Michael Turner, RB Since Burrier took Moss in the first round, he would have to land a RB here. Luckily for him, Turner feel to him in the second Actual Pick: Michael Turner

#21 Rob M Carson Palmer, QB Rob was set a RB and WR, he was not going to miss out on an elite arm. Actual Pick: Reggie Bush

#22 Robio Chad Johnson, WR I always knew I was not going to draft a running back unless a handful of guys fell to me. While there are better WR’s, I’ll be happy to land a Johnson Actual Pick: Andre Johnson

#23 Griff Reggie Wayne, WR (K) A keeper Reggie Wayne

#24 Colby Marshawn Lynch, RB (K) A keeper Marshawn Lynch

ROUND THREE

#25 Colby Torry Holt, WR They need an elite receiver now and Holt is the best of the bunch (that’s not currently suspended). Actual Pick: TJ Houshmandzadeh

#26 Griff Steve Smith, WR With two backs in his backfield, it’s receiver time Actual Pick: Thomas Jones

#27 Robio Antonio Gates, TE I love elite tight ends, especially ones that produce like #2 receivers. Actual Pick: Torry Holt

#28 Rob M Thomas Jones, RB I figured Rob would love to have Gates here, but homer insurance is the best kind to have. Actual Pick: D. McFadden

#29 Rich B Plaxico Burress, WR Since just about everyone has two backs, now the wide receivers will fly off the board. Actual Pick: Plaxico Burress

#30 Molly Anquan Boldin, WR It’s either Boldin, Williams, Harrison or Holmes. Boldin, when healthy, is at least consistent. Actual Pick: Santonio Holmes

#31 Eric Roy Williams, WR Roy Williams with Andre Johnson gives him a dynamic duo of receivers Actual Pick: LenDale White

#32 Don Willie Parker, RB Don needs a back, so he grabs the guy who was the leading rusher last year prior to getting hurt Actual Pick: Rudi Johnson

#33 Bob Marvin Harrison, WR Does he go with experience (Harrison) or possibility (Holmes)? Actual Pick: Anquan Boldin

#34 David Tom Brady, QB (K) A keeper Tom Brady

#35 Rich C Drew Brees, QB (K) A keeper Drew Brees

#36 Matt Santonio Holmes, WR Matt would be pumped to land this young man in the back of the third round Actual Pick: Ronnie Brown

ROUND FOUR

#37 Matt Donovan McNabb, QB With Palmer gone, it comes down to Big Ben or McNabb and could Matt pass up on the hometown talent? Actual Pick: Carson Palmer

#38 Rich C Julius Jones, RB He needs a running back and he can’t wait any longer. He could go for a rookie, Forte, Smith? Actual Pick: Calvin Johnson

#39 David Calvin Johnson, WR A team is starting to form here; Brady, Lewis, Graham, Housh and Calvin Johnson, the better receiver in Mo-Town Actual Pick: Laveranus Coles

#40 Bob Laveranus Coles, WR The better receivers are falling off the board fast and Coles should be a stud again with Favre around. Actual Pick: Antonio Gates

#41 Don Big Ben, QB He needs a QB and this is the last of the guarantee big boys. Actual Pick: Donovan McNabb

#42 Eric Edgerrin James, RB He’s set at RB and WR, so it’s time to get some insurance for Young. Actual Pick: Steve Smith

#43 Molly Matt Hasselback, QB She needs a starting QB and even though Hasselback’s back is not great, they still pass the ball a million times per game. Actual Pick: Jerricho Cotchery

#44 Rich B Hines Ward, WR He needs a second receiver and Ward is still decent Actual Pick: Chris Chambers

#45 Rob M Tony Gonzalez, TE It’s time fill out that roster; Palmer, Addai, Gore, Edwards, Marshall and now Gonzalez (with Thomas Jones on the bench). Actual Pick: Ben Roethlisberger

#46 Robio Kevin Smith, RB He’s been on my radar for a long time. It was only a matter of taking him here or in the fifth Actual Pick: Tony Gonzalez

#47 Griff Marc Bulger, QB He needs an arm. Actual Pick: Hines Ward

#48 Colby Lee Evans, WR Could they really risk it again with Lee Evans? Actual Pick: Lee Evans

ROUND FIVE

#49 Colby Jeremy Shockey, TE It’s tight end time and it came down to who was drafting; Colby or Jeff. Actual Pick: Chris Cooley

#50 Griff Chargers DST Griff loves his strong D’s. Actual Pick: Roddy White

#51 Robio Ronnie Brown, RB My starting lineup is almost set, I won’t take a QB since the rest are all the same, so it’s time to roll the dice on a decent keeper Actual Pick: Kevin Smith

#52 Rob M Joseph Addai, RB (K) A keeper Joseph Addai

#53 Rich B Chris Cooley, TE The better tight ends are going, going… Actual Pick: Jeremy Shockey

#54 Molly Rudi Johnson, RB A safe pick, although don’t expect great things Actual Pick: Chargers DST

#55 Eric Tony Romo, QB (K) A keeper. Actual Pick: Tony Romo

#56 Don Vernon Davis, TE The last solid tight end, who would be higher if he wasn’t in SF Actual Pick: Vikings DST

#57 Bob Jonathan Stewart, RB He’s suppose to be great, so someone has to take a chance. Actual Pick: DeAngelo Williams

#58 David Vikings DST Here goes the run of defenses Actual Pick: Santana Moss

#59 Rich C Matt Forte, RB Rich passed on McFadden, so he needs to think about the future now Actual Pick: Marvin Harrison

#60 Matt Steelers DST Here goes the D’s. Actual Pick: Joey Galloway

ROUND SIX

#61 Matt LenDale White, RB How about some young, solid insurance for his backs Actual Pick: Edgerrin James

#62 Rich C Jaguars DST A the D’s. go Actual Pick: Jonathan Stewart

#63 David Ernest Graham, RB (K) A keeper Ernest Graham

#64 Bob Bears DST More D’s. go… Actual Pick: Vincent Jackson

#65 Don Patriots DST And go… Actual Pick: Todd Heap

#66 Eric Selvin Young, RB (K) A keeper Selvin Young

#67 Molly Colts DST And go… Actual Pick: Matt Forte

#68 Rich B Giants DST And go… Actual Pick: Donald Driver

#69 Rob M Packers DST And go… Actual Pick: Ray Rice

#70 Robio Roddy White, WR It takes six rounds, but I finally take my second receiver. Actual Pick: R. Mendenhall

#71 Griff Ryan Grant, RB (K) A keeper Ryan Grant

#72 Colby Buccaneers DST And the finally defense goes to… Actual Pick: Nate Burleson
