This was a tough title game to deal with. I never quite knew who to cheer for. On one hand, if Calderon won, it would be the second straight year that the 7th seed (and a bottom half scorer) won the title. It would make our regular season irrelevant. On the other hand, if Matt won, it would be like have a paraplegic win my basketball league. It just makes us all look bad.
In the end, Matt takes home the gold (actually the mug). It was over early, by midway through the second quarter. No matter how much we rag on Matt, he’s the champ now, at least until this time next year.
It’s hard to believe that in the past two years the champs have been a Vozzola and a Neatock, while people like Masterson and Calderon have produced zero (and I’ve gone five years without).
Speaking of Rich, that’s league runner up in both baseball and football. His ragtag bunch just kind of fell apart this weekend; Jones and Gonzalez go down, and everyone else not named Watson underperforms. It’s a tough way to go. His 811 points is the second lowest scoring title game performance. In fact, the losing team of the title game has failed to break 900 in the last three games.
Congratulations Matt, 2007 is yours.
