Round 1
Matt – Corey Dillon (RB NE) – Position Rank: #18 THEN: He should do exactly what he did last season; just produce, baby. NOW: Injuries are starting to chip away at Dillon. More importantly, it’s the second straight year the top pick has been a disappointment during the keeper era
Robio – Peyton Manning (QB IND) – Position Rank: #2 THEN: This guy has changed the way we think of how to do a fantasy draft. NOW: Of course he didn’t do what he did last year, but he was the top scoring QB until he sat out most of the last two games.
Eric – Julius Jones (RB DAL) – Position Rank: #20 THEN:I’m saying it now, 1,500 yards and 14 touchdowns. NOW: Uh, nope. 1,187 total yards (958 rushing) and only five touchdowns
Molly – Deuce McAllister (RB NO) – Position Rank: #50 THEN: Deuce is going to have an awesome year; even without a home. NOW: He was the first big name RB to go down, now let’s see what he does with no Aaron Brooks next season. Can you say USC QB?
Jeff/Colby – Rudi Johnson (RB CIN) – Position Rank: #6 THEN:He’s looked sluggish in the preseason, but he was top-5 the last month of ’05 NOW: Struggled most of the season with Perry stealing too many carries, but he was a stud towards the end and a big reason for Robio’s playoff push.
Rob M – Priest Holmes (RB KC) – Position Rank: #29 THEN:He’s a stud, but he’s failed to finish 2 of the last 3 seasons. NOW: Back in 2003, when this became a keeper league, you had a big decision; Holmes or Alexander. You wen’t with now, instead of later. Griff took Alexander with the next pick and the rest is history.
Don – Randy Moss (WR OAK) – Position Rank: #21 THEN:With your backs taken, Moss was a no brainer. NOW: He started off like a stud, but then he got hurt and despite not missing any starts, he never recovered.
Rich B – LaDainian Tomlinson (RB SD) – Position Rank: #3 THEN: Can you smell a 2,000-yard season upon us? NOW: He was such a stud all season and was on the verge of being the MVP, but he really stunk it up in the last month.
David – Clinton Portis (RB WAS) – Position Rank: #7 THEN:What a horrible coach Gibbs was last season. Portis’ numbers should improve. NOW: What a great coach Gibbs was this season. He finally figured out how to play Portis who finished with six straight 100-yard games.
Rich C – Terrell Owens (WR PHI) – Position Rank: #27 THEN: If he doesn’t get suspended this season, he’s the league’s best receiver NOW: You took the chance and got burned.
Griff – Shaun Alexander (RB SEA) – Position Rank: #1 THEN: See Shaun run, see Shaun score, seen Shaun lead the NFC in rushing NOW: He’s been good to you and you’ll have him at least for one more season.
Bob – Kevin Jones (RB DET) – Position Rank: #34 THEN: The sophomore running back was a stud the last six weeks last season NOW: Boy, talk about a bust. Ricky Williams ended up with more fantasy points.
Round 2
Bob – Daunte Culpepper (QB MIN) – Position Rank: #35 THEN: He had more yards and completions than Manning last season. NOW: He only started eight games, but failed to break 100, f-ing 100, SIX times! That’s not bad, that’s tragic.
Griff – LaMont Jordan (RB OAK) – Position Rank: #6 THEN: Lovin’ Jordan…look for him to out-produce Curtis Martin this season NOW: Life might have been less grand if you got to draft the player you wanted to pick here, Kevin Jones. Jordan was a solid two before Larry stepped in.
Rich C – Jamal Lewis (RB BAL) – Position Rank: #30 THEN: The drug lover gets no respect, let’s see if he earns it on the field NOW: Prison changes a man…doubtful he’ll be a Raven next season, but who really wants an aging former star running back? Do you wish you never traded away The Edge for this?
David – Chad Johnson (WR CIN) – Position Rank: #2 THEN: Palmer has looked bad so far this preseason, but Chad’s still a stud NOW: He was the top receiver all season until TJ’s numbers started to pick up
Rich B – Steven Jackson (RB STL) – Position Rank: #12 THEN: He better live up to the hype, cause Faulk can still run. NOW: He was a great #2 running back until the end
Don – Domanick Davis (RB HOU) – Position Rank: #15 THEN: Look for Dom to throw down some Roger Craig-type digits. NOW: He struggled out of the gate, but he really picked up steam at the end. He’s a big ‘?’ in ’06 if Bush comes to Houston.
Rob M – Ahman Green (RB GB) – Position Rank: #60 THEN: Going, going….gone. His days are numbered…or are they? NOW: Don’t look for him to return to rebuilding Green Bay.
Jeff/Colby – Donovan McNabb (QB PHI) – Position Rank: #18 THEN: I suspect he’s going to do even better this year; just my gut NOW: Despite injuries, he was one of the top QB’s before he went down for the year
Molly – Brian Westbrook (RB PHI) – Position Rank: #14 THEN: Thank God, Buckhalter went down again. NOW: Andy Reid never figured out how to run the ball, which is a shame because this guy’s pretty good.
Eric – Marvin Harrison (WR IND) – Position Rank: #8 THEN: Too early…he was second on his own team in receptions. NOW: He’s starting to slide (just a bit) and will probably be an early third round pick next season.
Robio – Torry Holt (WR STL) – Position Rank: #6 THEN: Gives you all the points without the attitude, hold outs and arrests NOW: He was the league’s top receiver for the first five weeks, but injuries to himself and the Rams’ top two QB’s hurt his numbers
Matt – Edgerrin James (RB IND) – Position Rank: #5 THEN: Great back…I just wished Peyton would hand him a few more TD’s NOW: In a year that was filled with good trades by Matt, this trade made in the offseason of ’04 is still his best.
Round 3
Matt – Andre Johnson (WR HOU) – Position Rank: #44 THEN: Look out, Andre is going to step up to stud this year. NOW: Was on his way to being the year’s biggest bust, but a solid last five weeks will give hope to whatever team drafts him next season.
Robio – Joe Horn (WR NO) – Position Rank: #50 THEN: Lucky I got him here, I should not be getting stud receivers in the third rd NOW: As the Sainst collapsed, so did Horn who probably won’t be touch in the first seven rounds next season.
Eric – Chris Brown (RB TEN) – Position Rank: #18 THEN: Henry has been hurt and Brown’s been ripping it apart. NOW: Heard almost nothing from him, but he did manage to finish in the top 20
Molly – Michael Clayton (WR TB) – Position Rank: #56 THEN: A stud pair of hands, coming off an amazing rookie year NOW: Now here’s the biggest bust of the year, after a super freshman year, he averaged 43ppg in ’05.
Jeff/Colby – Steve Smith (WR CAR) – Position Rank: #1 THEN: I was surprised he went this early, but I think it’s a good pick NOW: In a round that saw the 44th, 50th, 56th, 97th, 55th and 52nd wide receivers taken, Smith is the golden ticket of the bunch.
Rob M – Roy Williams (WR DET) – Position Rank: #32 THEN: He was solid early on last year, but tailed off. He’ll find his studness again NOW: With no decent QB in Motown, you can’t expect anyone to be a good receiver
Don – Marc Bulger (QB STL) – Position Rank: #21 THEN: Don’s making all the right moves so far. NOW: Three of the top four QB’s taken spent most of the season on the IR
Rich B – Anquan Boldin (WR ARI) – Position Rank: #5 THEN: Healthy again, he’ll put up better number than Fitzgerald NOW: I didn’t think both Fitzgerald AND Boldin could be great…I was wrong.
David – Nate Burleson (WR MIN) – Position Rank: #97 THEN: The man who could decide your season. Is he a #1 receiver? NOW: This guy was a huge, huge disappointment.
Rich C – Darrell Jackson (WR SEA) – Position Rank: #55 THEN: Imagine if he didn’t drop twenty balls a game; still a good one though. NOW: A season long injury to Jackson (along with Owens suspension) and Rich’s top receiving combo is a dud
Griff – Hines Ward (WR PIT) – Position Rank: #12 THEN: He’s been great, but his numbers suffered with Big Ben playing NOW: Griff got exactly what he needed out of him, consistency
Bob – Isaac Bruce (WR STL) – Position Rank: #52 THEN: Look for the decline of Bruce this season. I would have found someone younger NOW: He missed too much time due to injuries to be effective for Bobby
Round 4
Bob – Tony Gonzalez (TE KC) – Position Rank: #6 THEN: Grabs the #1 tight end in the 4th. It did me a lot of good last season. NOW: He slide in ’05, so I’m not sure if he’s worthy of a 4th rd pick anymore
Griff – Antonio Gates (TE SD) – Position Rank: #1 THEN: He’ll miss one game (most likely), but he’ll be fine the rest of the year. NOW: Not only was he the top TE, he was the top TE by over 500 pts…and he missed a game.
Rich C – Carnell Williams (RB TB) – Position Rank: #20 THEN: I’d like Cadillac a lot more if Pittman would get arrested again and disappear NOW: Easily the top rookie taken in ’05
David – DST Bills (DST BUF) – Position Rank: #23 THEN: You landed what I believe will be this year’s number one defense. NOW: Every year it seems like the first defense taken is always a bust
Rich B – Derrick Mason (WR BAL) – Position Rank: #23 THEN: Coming off an injury, moving to a new town with a bad QB. I’m not excited. NOW: Heck, he did better than I thought he would do
Don – Laveranues Coles (WR NYJ) – Position Rank: #30 THEN: He’s back in New York, he’s back to top-twelve status. NOW: The Jets fans got to be pissed about this one, especially when you see Santana Moss’ numbers.
Rob M – Kerry Collins (QB OAK) – Position Rank: #14 THEN: I’m not buying the Moss-effect. Collins will not be a top-five QB this year NOW: You have to expect better from a 4th round quarterback
Jeff/Colby – Donald Driver (WR GB) – Position Rank: #11 THEN: He’s proven he can put up a #1 receiver’s numbers as a #2 receiver NOW: A big reason for Jeff/Colby’s success once Walker went down.
Molly – Jerry Porter (WR OAK) – Position Rank: #24 THEN: He was supposed to be a stud last year, and wasn’t. Nothing will change. NOW: I’m a little suprised he finished the 24th best receiver…how many good games did he have, one?
Eric – Ronnie Brown (RB MIA) – Position Rank: #22 THEN: You waited and you still got him; now he needs to produce NOW: He showed hopeful signs, but Ricky stole too many carries away
Robio – Jason Witten (TE DAL) – Position Rank: #7 THEN: Awesome…I’ll get Gonzalez type numbers. Solid. NOW: Was not worth the 4th rd pick that was used to take him
Matt – DST Ravens (DST BAL) – Position Rank: #10 THEN: Interested in seeing how they perform in the 46-Defense NOW: It’s hard to believe they ended up in the top ten, after the start to the season they had
Round 5
Matt – Lee Evans (WR BUF) – Position Rank: #29 THEN: He could be the man in Buffalo; as long as Losman steps up NOW: He did finish ahead of Moulds, which we all saw coming, but it wasn’t that impressive of a job
Robio – J.J. Arrington (RB ARI) – Position Rank: #24 THEN: Give it a month or so before he busts out big fantasy numbers NOW: Crash and burn.
Eric – Brett Favre (QB GB) – Position Rank: #15 THEN: The ageless wonder will be throwing the ball around a lot this year NOW: Was just down-right awful down the stretch, but he didn’t really hurt Eric
Molly – DeShaun Foster (RB CAR) – Position Rank: #24 THEN: There are a lot of backs in Carolina. How many touches will he get? NOW: I can’t believe Stephan Davis started ahead of this guy for almost the entire season.
Jeff/Colby – DST Patriots (DST NE) – Position Rank: #26 THEN: Strange, the Pats defense gets worse, but everyone’s so high on them NOW: After struggling hard all season, they were the best team in the last month of the season
Rob M – Javon Walker (WR GB) – Position Rank: #152 THEN: He whines a lot, but as long as he continues to catch and run, who cares? NOW:
Don – DST Steelers (DST PIT) – Position Rank: #3 THEN: The top defense from last season, should be good again. NOW: They were great all year, but struggled when Don needed them the most…at the end
Rich B – Michael Vick (QB ATL) – Position Rank: #9 THEN: If he’s going to step up; this is his year to do it. No bullshit, no excuses. NOW: He was ranked in the top ten, which should make you happy, but he was much better in the 2nd half, but struggled in the first half.
David – Curtis Martin (RB NYJ) – Position Rank: #28 THEN: He gets better with age. He won’t lead the league in rushing, but you’ll be happy NOW: He didn’t leave the legue in rushing and Dave probably wasn’t happy either. He feel to the bottom of a second tier back.
Rich C – DST Panthers (DST CAR) – Position Rank: #2 THEN: The Panthers D should return to greatness this year. NOW: Calderon had a top five QB and the number two defense? How was the season such a bust?
Griff – Trent Green (QB KC) – Position Rank: #8 THEN: He’s just as good as McNabb and you get him three rounds later. NOW: It looked like he might have been bench by Griff, but he got his act together in the 2nd half
Bob – Thomas Jones (RB CHI) – Position Rank: #11 THEN: With Benson signed; Thomas will be on the bench in a month NOW: A big positive for Bob, who had very few positives in ’05
Round 6
Bob – Reggie Wayne (WR IND) – Position Rank: #16 THEN: He’s looking like a pro-bowler for the next few years. NOW: His numbers dipped a bit, but good enough for a 6th round keeper
Griff – Ashley Lelie (WR DEN) – Position Rank: #33 THEN: This is the year he out-produces Rod Smith. NOW: A disappointment, especially when you consider this was the year he was supposed to overtake Rod Smith in Denver.
Rich C – Matt Hasselbeck (QB SEA) – Position Rank: #4 THEN: I don’t think replacing Koren with a bunch of journeymen WR’s will help NOW: Despite all the WR injuries for the Seahawks, Hasselback was a top-five QB all season long
David – Tom Brady (QB NE) – Position Rank: #3 THEN: The Superbowl winner is finally looking like a fantasy stud NOW: Tom has finally moved up to fantasy stud level
Rich B – Marcus Pollard (TE DET) – Position Rank: #16 THEN: His numbers will fall in Motown. NOW: Just a bad, bad pick…especially when you look at the four TE’s taken in the next four picks
Don – Todd Heap (TE BAL) – Position Rank: #3 THEN: He needs to stay healthy for you this year. NOW: He contiues to produce nicely despite the QB troubles in Baltimore
Rob M – Randy McMichael (TE MIA) – Position Rank: #9 THEN: Great find. He’s a good TE, despite being on the Dolphins. NOW: His numbers should improve in ’06 with Saban in his second year
Jeff/Colby – Dallas Clark (TE IND) – Position Rank: #11 THEN: A good sleeper tight end, but can you call a 6th rd TE a sleeper? NOW: A slow start, but he was one of the top TE’s in the second half and a big reason Matt, not Jeff/Colby won his division.
Molly – Alge Crumpler (TE ATL) – Position Rank: #4 THEN: He’s Vick’s top target, a top tight end and it cost you little. NOW: He was a good keeper, considering he’s better then all the other TE’s taken this round
Eric – DST Eagles (DST PHI) – Position Rank: #24 THEN: Stud defense in a poor man’s offensive division NOW: Reason #1 Eric missed the post-season in ’05, he stuck with the Eagles who killed him too often
Robio – Mike Anderson (RB DEN) – Position Rank: #10 THEN: He’ll be the opening day starter…but how long will that last? NOW: He was a solid pick that kept his numbers up despite Tatum Bell and he helped Robio start the season 3-0 and helped Matt end the season 4-0.
Matt – Cedric Benson (RB CHI) – Position Rank: #85 THEN: He finally signed, but you could have waited another round or two NOW: If it wasn’t for JJ, Cedric would be the biggest rookie running back bust
Round 7
Matt – Jeb Putzier (TE DEN) – Position Rank: #19 THEN: Not sold on this guy…again, you could have waited. NOW: TE’s in Denver not named Sharpe, simply don’t produce.
Robio – Michael Bennett (RB MIN) – Position Rank: #55 THEN: Hey, he’s hurt. What’s new? NOW: He had his chance to shine this year, but instead he showed us all why Onterrio Smith will be the starter again in ’06
Eric – Jeremy Shockey (TE NYG) – Position Rank: #2 THEN: Typical Giant game. The fans, “throw it to Shockey!” Jeremy drops it NOW: Shockey jumped back up to stud-status after ’05, thanks to the improvement of Eli
Molly – DST Jets (DST NYJ) – Position Rank: #22 THEN: A good defense, but there were a couple better one’s available. NOW: It’s tough to play defense when your offense can’t do much
Jeff/Colby – Warrick Dunn (RB ATL) – Position Rank: #9 THEN: A great backup back that will fill in nicely during the bye-weeks NOW: A great pick who did what he always does; starts off hot and ends the season slowly.
Rob M – Duce Staley (RB PIT) – Position Rank: #84 THEN: I’m having doubts he’ll be the man in Pittsburgh this season. NOW: Thanks to Parker and Bettis, he never found a spot on the field
Don – Fred Taylor (RB JAC) – Position Rank: #27 THEN: If only he could stay healthy, he’d be a pro bowler. NOW: Same old story, great running back, who can’t score TD’s and can’t stay healthy.
Rich B – DST Buccaneers (DST TB) – Position Rank: #5 THEN: They’ve definitely fallen a bit, but they’re still a top-10 defense. NOW: The Bucs have stumbled the past couple years, but this year they stepped back up
David – Lee Suggs (RB CLE) – Position Rank: #129 THEN: Even if he does continue to start, he’s not a 20-carriers a game back NOW: Thanks to Reuben Droughns, the Browns had no use for the former Hokie standout
Rich C – Tatum Bell (RB DEN) – Position Rank: #23 THEN: His struggles could cost you a title run this season. NOW: Amazingly, he never was able to take over the starting duties for Mike Anderson.
Griff – Justin McCareins (WR NYJ) – Position Rank: #41 THEN: With Coles on the other end, McCareins is average at best NOW: All Jet players were busts this year
Bob – DST Cowboys (DST DAL) – Position Rank: #14 THEN: There are a lot of rookies on this team, but they’re getting lots of props NOW: They showed some positive signs throughout the year and they should be even better next year
Round 8
Bob – Marshall Faulk (RB STL) – Position Rank: #45 THEN: Why not? Jackson hasn’t proven shit yet. If the kid struggles, insert Faulk NOW: Jackson never got hurt and Faulk was never a factor
Griff – Larry Johnson (RB KC) – Position Rank: #4 THEN: Even if Priest gets hurt, he only gets hurt late in the season. NOW: At least in the keeper era; this pick is looking like the greatess pick ever
Rich C – Travis Henry (RB TEN) – Position Rank: #62 THEN: A little early for a player who’s only going to start if someone else gets hurt. NOW: Couldn’t pass a piss test, couldn’t pass up Chad Brown on the dept chart
David – Plaxico Burress (WR NYG) – Position Rank: #13 THEN: The last good game he had was the Outback Bowl in college NOW: A great pick? Yes. A great sleeper pick? No. This guy has too much talent to be considered a sleeper.
Rich B – Mewelde Moore (RB MIN) – Position Rank: #26 THEN: He could be the permanent starter in Minnesota. NOW: Too many running backs running the ball nowhere in Minnesota
Don – Willis McGahee (RB BUF) – Position Rank: #17 THEN: He’ll be mentioned with Tomlinson, Holmes & Alexander all season. NOW: My pre-season MVP was a disappointment, but he’s still a decent keeper option
Rob M – Chris Chambers (WR MIA) – Position Rank: #9 THEN: Imagine a starting lineup of Chambers, McMichael and Ricky Williams. NOW: Remember when all you people were whining that Rob was picking up injured players for next year’s keeper; well, this is one of the players he dropped. Maybe it wasn’t such a smart move after all. (Note: It was Rob who pointed out this fact to me)
Jeff/Colby – Tiki Barber (RB NYG) – Position Rank: #2 THEN: With Eli improving, the lanes should stay open for Tiki NOW: To this day, the Tiki “trades” (Matt-to-Robio-toJeff/Colby) has to be one of the greatest trades of all time. Next season, Tiki will only be a 7th rd pick)
Molly – Antwaan Randle El (WR PIT) – Position Rank: #47 THEN: Can the little guy fill Burress’ shoes? Hell, I could fill Burress’ shoes. NOW: Plaxico’s shoes were too big to fill.
Eric – Larry Fitzgerald (WR ARI) – Position Rank: #4 THEN: Who’s going to step up in the Desert? My money’s on Bolden. NOW: A great keeper who will payoff big time for Eric next season, because unlike this past season when Fitz was unknown, Eric can pencil him in as a #1 receiver in ’06
Robio – Jimmy Smith (WR JAC) – Position Rank: #17 THEN: How much does he still have in the tank? I say, plenty. NOW: The first of three oldie but goldie receivers taken by Robio. This one helped him land Corey Dillon
Matt – Braylon Edwards (WR CLE) – Position Rank: #53 THEN: If Clayton (TB) can catch 80 balls in his rookie year, why can’t Edwards? NOW: He started to look good, but then got bitten by the injury bug.
Round 9
Matt – David Carr (QB HOU) – Position Rank: #23 THEN: His O-line is good, receivers are good, his RB is good…he has no excuses NOW: Carr would be considered a bust, if it wasn’t for the fact that he was drafted in the same year as Harrington, who’s a bigger bust
Robio – DST Redskins (DST WAS) – Position Rank: #11 THEN: They looked good last season; can their offense keep them off the field? NOW: Ended up being a good pick, but they ended up hurting Robio, after trading them to Matt, helping him to the division title
Eric – Troy Williamson (WR MIN) – Position Rank: #75 THEN: Next year, baby. Next year. NOW: All that speed and nothing to do with it.
Molly – Frank Gore (RB SF) – Position Rank: #38 THEN: A popular sleeper, who’s tore up both his ACL’s in college NOW: In his final two games, he scored over 200 fantasy points…I find that interesting
Jeff/Colby – Jake Delhomme (QB CAR) – Position Rank: #12 THEN: He’s done the job in Carolina, but is he a #1 QB in fantasy land. NOW: He’d be a top ten QB if he had a second receiver in Carolina
Rob M – Ricky Williams (RB MIA) – Position Rank: #31 THEN: Someone had to take him, but this is a little early. NOW: The Dolphins showcased him in the end, hoping to trade him. He will be a good keeper if he gets traded to a team that he can start for.
Don – Muhsin Muhammad (WR CHI) – Position Rank: #35 THEN: Wow, last year’s top receiver falls to the 9th rd. NOW: Talk about a monster drop off…that’s what happens when you go from the Panthers to the Bears offense
Rich B – Keary Colbert (WR CAR) – Position Rank: #93 THEN: A popular sleeper pick. He had a few great games last season. NOW: Keep dreaming, because he was no sleeper
David – Jerome Bettis (RB PIT) – Position Rank: #47 THEN: He’s banged up, which will cost him time on the field. NOW: he scored a few TD’s late in the season, but he didn’t help Dave out too much
Rich C – Deion Branch (WR NE) – Position Rank: #19 THEN: Rule number #54 in fantasy sports…never draft a Patriot receiver NOW: Actually, I’m impressed a Patriot receiver finished in the top-20
Griff – Greg Lewis (WR PHI) – Position Rank: #63 THEN: Why not? He could be a 60-catch guy? NOW: He’s a third, slot receive at best
Bob – Reuben Droughns (RB CLE) – Position Rank: #13 THEN: Eventually, he’ll be the starter, but that means nothing in Cleveland NOW: Suprisingly, he was the man in Browns, proving once and for all, there is life after Denver for former Broncos’ running backs
Round 10
Bob – Santana Moss (WR WAS) – Position Rank: #3 THEN: He has one bad year and suddenly no one loves him NOW: Wow, in a season of low-lites for Bobby, Santana was a stud
Griff – Matt Jones (WR JAC) – Position Rank: #61 THEN: He’s been impressing the coach’s in Jacksonville NOW: You can’t really expect too much from a rookie receiver who was a QB in college
Rich C – LaBrandon Toefield (RB JAC) – Position Rank: #90 THEN: Yet another player who has no value, unless another player goes down NOW: When Taylor went down, it was Greg Jones, not Toefield, who got the carries
David – L.J. Smith (TE PHI) – Position Rank: #10 THEN: He’s improved as McNabb starts to look for him more and more. NOW: The tail of two seasons: averaged 98ppg with McNabb at QB, 59ppg without McNabb
Rich B – Tyrone Calico (WR TEN) – Position Rank: #127 THEN: A great sleeper pick. If he stays healthy, he might be better than Bennett NOW: The Titans were terrible and so were their fantasy options
Don – Jonathan Wells (RB HOU) – Position Rank: #43 THEN: You grabbed a backup late in the draft; smart move NOW: Davis missed only a couple games, so Wells never had any opportunities
Rob M – Brandon Stokley (WR IND) – Position Rank: #57 THEN: He had more 100-yard games than Harrison and Wayne. NOW: He fell of the map in ’05, showing us he will end up being a one-hit wonder
Jeff/Colby – Bobby Engram (WR SEA) – Position Rank: #42 THEN: Never too excited about the 2nd best receiver in Seattle NOW: Injuries kept him off the field and even when he did play, he was average at best
Molly – Kurt Warner (QB ARI) – Position Rank: #21 THEN: He’s not starting material at all. NOW: Injuries dropped him into the low twenties, but when he was in there, he made Fitzgerald and Boldin top five receivers
Eric – Stephen Davis (RB CAR) – Position Rank: #25 THEN: Who knows who’s going to be the best, healthiest, runner in Carolina NOW: Career going, going gone
Robio – Kevan Barlow (RB SF) – Position Rank: #33 THEN: I’ve watched Gore the past four years in Miami. Barlow is safe for now. NOW: His time looks to be up in SF. He’ll probably be a backup somewhere else next season.
Matt – Drew Brees (QB SD) – Position Rank: #6 THEN: Why oh why draft a third QB between Carr and Palmer NOW: A great QB cosidering he has only one great receiver in his tight end, Gates
Round 11
Matt – Carson Palmer (QB CIN) – Position Rank: #1 THEN: He got a lot of off-season props, but so far, Kitna has made him look bad NOW: It’s a great keeper when you have the league’s top QB in the 11th rd. He won’t cost you a 1st rd pick until 2009
Robio – Rod Smith (WR DEN) – Position Rank: #14 THEN: I’d rather have Lelie, but Smith refuses to fade into that good night. NOW: The ageless wonder was the 14th ranked receiver, but he was never taken off Robio’s practice squad
Eric – Eddie Kennison (WR KC) – Position Rank: #20 THEN: With Parker on the otherside now, Kennison will get more space to catch NOW: Even with Gonzalez having an off year, no KC receiver can break the top ten
Molly – Brandon Lloyd (WR SF) – Position Rank: #38 THEN: Someone’s got to step up to the plate in SF, Lloyd could be the man. NOW: He showed some signs, but once Alex Smith came in, his season was done
Jeff/Colby – Mike Vanderjagt (K IND) – Position Rank: #5 THEN: If only the Colts kicked more field goals. NOW: I still think the 11th rd is too early for a kicker
Rob M – Eric Shelton (RB CAR) – Position Rank: #155 THEN: Might be the starter come fantasy playoff time…oh wait, he’s gone for the year NOW: In a year where Rob lost Javon Walker, Ahman Green and Priest Holmes to the IR, let’s not forget, this was actually his first player to hit the IR, before the season started
Don – T.J. Duckett (RB ATL) – Position Rank: #41 THEN: Can he ever overthrow Dunn? I doubt it at this point. NOW: With Dunn, Duckett will always be a dud
Rich B – Brandon Jacobs (RB NYG) – Position Rank: #74 THEN: Why would you draft a backup RB ever, unless you had Barber? NOW: Unless your Jerome Bettis, short yardage backs who only come in for goal line opportunites aren’t worth a pick
David – Keenan McCardell (WR SD) – Position Rank: #18 THEN: I just don’t like any of the Chargers’ receivers. NOW: He’s the best San Diego has to offer at wide receiver
Rich C – Drew Bennett (WR TEN) – Position Rank: #36 THEN: A nice find last season, should do even better this season. NOW: After last season’s break out month, we all though Bennett was going to step it up in ’05, but again, he’s just another average white receiver
Griff – Adam Vinatieri (K NE) – Position Rank: #23 THEN: Way too early for a kicker. Is the #1 kicker really worth a 11th pick? NOW: He actually struggled this year
Bob – Byron Leftwich (QB JAC) – Position Rank: #20 THEN: Leftwich has yet to show the brilliance he showed at Marshall NOW: He was having a solid year until he got hurt
Round 12
Bob – Samie Parker (WR KC) – Position Rank: #58 THEN: The KC speedster could produce some good numbers this season. NOW: Nope
Griff – Mike Williams (WR DET) – Position Rank: #90 THEN: Might as well…but he’s going to need a year before he starts to produce. NOW: You missed out on the ’04 USC championship, just so you could be the 90th ranked receiver in the NFL? Nice.
Rich C – Travis Taylor (WR MIN) – Position Rank: #49 THEN: He’s moved up in Minnesota, but is he fantasy worthy? NOW: New team, same results. Nada.
David – DST Broncos (DST DEN) – Position Rank: #8 THEN: They’ve got ‘Bust’ written all over them. NOW: They didn’t play much for Burrier, who started the Bucs D, but they were a top ten defense all season long
Rich B – Ryan Moats (RB PHI) – Position Rank: #64 THEN: Yet another backup running back, where you don’t have that team’s starter NOW: He filled in nicely for an injured Westbrook, but he didn’t help anyone out.
Don – Joey Galloway (WR TB) – Position Rank: #7 THEN: If the Cowboys are as good as everyone says; Joey will be important. NOW: A great, great pick. One problem…he helped lead Griff to the title. This is one that Don might regret cutting.
Rob M – J.P. Losman (QB BUF) – Position Rank: #34 THEN: I like him a lot, but for next season NOW: Bench baby, bench!
Jeff/Colby – Chester Taylor (RB BAL) – Position Rank: #39 THEN: Why do you need Jamal Lewis’ backup? NOW: Can he be the man in Baltimore in ’06? We’ll wait and see.
Molly – Aaron Stecker (RB NO) – Position Rank: #51 THEN: Grabbing a backup…I like, I like. NOW: He actually did get some playing time, but didn’t do much with it.
Eric – Patrick Ramsey (QB WAS) – Position Rank: #50 THEN: Ramsey’s looked decent, but Brunell’s looked great so far NOW: Started one game and was outta there.
Robio – Eric Moulds (WR BUF) – Position Rank: #39 THEN: Losman has looked for Evans more than Moulds. NOW: He’s still a good receiver, but it wasn’t until after he got suspended for a game that he started to prove it.
Matt – Dominic Rhodes (RB IND) – Position Rank: #77 THEN: Grabbing your starter’s backup, not a bad move NOW: James stayed healthy, so Rhodes was relegated to special teams
Round 13
Matt – Nate Kaeding (K SD) – Position Rank: #6 THEN: He’s a kicker, what’s there to say? NOW: This is where kickers should be taken?
Robio – Mike Nugent (K NYJ) – Position Rank: #27 THEN: Might as well…he was great in college. NOW: Not enough field goal attempts to be effective
Eric – Sebastian Janikowski (K OAK) – Position Rank: #28 THEN: He’s always been good, now his offense is too NOW: He’s still a fat piece of shit
Molly – Jason Hanson (K DET) – Position Rank: #25 THEN: Oh the little kicker that could, and has for a long time NOW: How many more years does he got?
Jeff/Colby – T.J. Houshmandzadeh (WR CIN) – Position Rank: #15 THEN: He could be the Reggie Wayne of ’05 NOW: A solid, late round pick who helped Jeff & Colby get into and stay late into the playoffs.
Rob M – Michael Jenkins (WR ATL) – Position Rank: #60 THEN: Zzzzzz…sleeper alert, sleeper alert NOW: He must of hit snooze a few hundred times.
Don – Antonio Bryant (WR CLE) – Position Rank: #28 THEN: He appears to be Dilfer’s guy, but what exactly does that mean? NOW: He was the best the Browns had to offer and he actually started a few games this year, but as soon as Dilfer got bench, Bryant’s numbers went with him.
Rich B – Charles Rogers (WR DET) – Position Rank: #104 THEN: He’s gone from a 4th rd pick to this. So sad. NOW: I think it’s time to stop wasting a pick on Charles “Bust” Rogers
David – Paul Edinger (K MIN) – Position Rank: #22 THEN: There’s still confusion on who will be kicking in Minnesota. NOW: No offense equals no points for kickers
Rich C – William Green (RB CLE) – Position Rank: #101 THEN: He’s a third-string running back in a running back rotation on a bad team. NOW: He had a shot to be a starter, but what’s he do? 166 total points. Nice job Smokey.
Griff – DST Falcons (DST ATL) – Position Rank: #15 THEN: Despite great year, the Falcons D get no respect because all the focus is on Vick NOW: Too many negative games to be considered a good defense
Bob – Mark Clayton (WR BAL) – Position Rank: #56 THEN: He’s worth the gamble, but I don’t see it happening this season. NOW: Might end up being a big mistake not keeping this kid, after doing nothing all season, he averaged 197ppg in his last four.
Round 14
Bob – Phil Dawson (K CLE) – Position Rank: #18 THEN: A good kicker on a bad team. NOW: I was suprised he got as many points as he did
Griff – Maurice Morris (RB SEA) – Position Rank: #67 THEN: Now you grab your back up. Good. NOW: Luckily for you, you never needed to play him
Rich C – Jermaine Wiggins (TE MIN) – Position Rank: #14 THEN: Look for him to improve, since Daute will be spreading that ball around. NOW: He’s just not consistent enough to be worthy of a fantasy roster spot
David – Ben Troupe (TE TEN) – Position Rank: #15 THEN: I’m hearing good things about this kid with Chow as the O-coach. NOW: He showed since of greatness in the final month of fantasy football, so can he move up to top ten status next season?
Rich B – Jay Feely (K NYG) – Position Rank: #2 THEN: He’s a great kicker in a dome. NOW: Despite that awful Seattle game, ended the season the number two kicker
Don – Alex D. Smith (QB SF) – Position Rank: #176 THEN: A keeper for next season? NOW: Can you say BUST? How bad was he? He started eight games and scored exactly -131 points. How the hell do you finish in the negative? Well, throw lots of INT’s and no, absolutely no touchdowns.
Rob M – Ryan Longwell (K GB) – Position Rank: #26 THEN: A good kicker, picked late – celebrate. NOW: It’s hard to kick field goals when Favre is throwing interceptions
Jeff/Colby – Najeh Davenport (RB GB) – Position Rank: #89 THEN: Why do you need Ahman Green’s backup? NOW: He had his chance; Green went down. But then Najeh went down the following game.
Molly – David Akers (K PHI) – Position Rank: #31 THEN: Uh…how many kickers do you need? NOW: Spent half the season in the IR
Eric – Quentin Griffin (RB DEN) – Position Rank: #155 THEN: He outta there! NOW: And to think, I (the great Robio) traded away Tiki for this guy
Robio – Michael Pittman (RB TB) – Position Rank: #37 THEN: Only has value if C. Williams goes down NOW: He played a couple games, but that’s all he was good for.
Matt – Bubba Franks (TE GB) – Position Rank: #34 THEN: Great inside the 20; between the 20’s…not so much NOW: He was his typical average TE until he got knocked out for the season.
Round 15
Matt – Reggie Brown (WR PHI) – Position Rank: #59 THEN: And the typical 15th round Matt ‘heart’ pick NOW: next year he’ll probably be asked to be a #1 receiver in Philly. But personally, that’s asking too much from this guy.
Robio – Doug Jolley (TE NYJ) – Position Rank: #25 THEN: So far, he’s struggling to crack the starting Jet’s lineup NOW: He made the Jets miss Anthony Becht
Eric – Anthony Becht (TE TB) – Position Rank: #51 THEN: Anthony should just retire. NOW: Maybe I was a little rough on Jolley
Molly – Jake Plummer (QB DEN) – Position Rank: #5 THEN: Oh that potential; those yards, those touchdowns…oh no, those Interceptions NOW: Mistake for Molly on this on. He would have been a great keeper in 2006
Jeff/Colby – Ben Roethlisberger (QB PIT) – Position Rank: #16 THEN: He can run the ‘O’ and win some games, but fantasy points are missing NOW: Despite injuries, he did improve and should be able to move into the top ten in QB’s next season.
Rob M – DST Vikings (DST MIN) – Position Rank: #16 THEN: Yet, another possible sleeper. However, I’m not buying it NOW: A popular sleeper defense, who struggled early on and was cut, but they found their groove in the second half.
Don – Jason Elam (K DEN) – Position Rank: #11 THEN: You love it when a great kicker is around in the 15th. NOW: His numbers slipped a little from previous seasons
Rich B – Ben Watson (TE NE) – Position Rank: #18 THEN: Watson’s supposed to be a sleeper – we’ll see. NOW: A popular sleeper pick that never panned out
David – Chad Hutchinson (QB CHI) – Position Rank: #97 THEN: Cut baby, Cut! NOW: He was Cut baby, Cut!
Rich C – Jeff Wilkins (K STL) – Position Rank: #3 THEN: Top kicker on a top offensive team in the last round. NOW: The Rams O struggled, but not Wilkins
Griff – Eric Johnson (TE SF) – Position Rank: #100 THEN: He’d be a great TE if he wasn’t a 49er. NOW: Did he even play this season?
Bob – Rex Grossman (QB CHI) – Position Rank: #51 THEN: You must have fallen asleep at the wheel here. NOW: Does anyone really think Rex will be worthy of a starting fantasy spot?
BEST UNDRAFTED FREE AGENT PICK UPS
Bears DST – The league’s top defense was an early pick up that allowed him to trade the Redskins for Corey Dillon and the Jaguars for Rudi Johnson Colts Defense – They were the highest scoring D for a while, but slowed a bit in the end, but without them, you could probably add two more loses to Molly’s record Willie Parker – It was a rough year for Calderon, but if he didn’t have Willie Parker in the beginning, his season would have been over a lot sooner
Sam Gado – No playoffs without Gado for Robio
Chris Cooley – He came out of nowhere to be one of the league’s best tigh ends…based on his numbers in week 14-16, we’re all gald Calderon didn’t make the playoffs
Eli Manning – Molly’s quarterback suffle came to an end when she picked up lil’ Manning Kevin Curtis – With his receivers hurting, Don was able to stick the great white hope in for a while and pull out a couple more wins in the league’s toughest division
Mark Brunell – Back when Trent Green was struggling, Griff was able to fill in the hole with Brunell when he was hot, hot, hot
Drew Bledsoe – He was a top-ten QB for most of the season A. Bryant – Filled in nicely for Robio in the mid-season when both Holt and Horn were out
