2001 Season Rewind

Note: Although I didn’t write back in 2001, I did write some. Unfortunately, I did most of the writing on the message boards, which only saves so much from the past, thus much was lost.

Week One

The Vozzola family joined the league in 2001, but neither qualified for the post-season in their first year.

Tuesday Thoughts

Over the next 8 weeks we play non-divisonal games. This is when we find out who’s for real, and who’s full of s*#t. For the record The High-Times divison from ’00 (Brian, Griff, Chris, and Jimmy) have the best non-divison combined record of 20-12 (.635) for one season. As for individual achievments, nobody has ever gone undefeated. The closes was me in ’99, going 7-1. As for career, I’m 13-3 (.813) all-time outside my division. Considering I’ve won both league championships, it should tell you how important these games are. Vote for what divison you think is going to dominate the rest.

Week Four

Robio’s Hurricanes (1245) at Griff’s Stoners (1581) Ricky’s Cubs (993) at Brian’s Seminoles (1207) Matt’s Buckeyes (1065) at Jason’s Phisheads (1957) David the Patriots (1784) at Eric’s Dolphins (1074) Beat Miami (Dream On) (1030) at Anne’s Quakers (1304) Jimmy’s Alcoholics (1904) at Don’s Gators (801)

Tuesday Thoughts

Rising above the rest, Jimmy remains the only undefeated team in the league. With one more victory, Jimmy will tie Justin (5-0 in ’00) for the greatest start in league history.

Looking ahead, who do you think will end Jimmy’s winning ways. Vote on the CommPoll.

Week Six

Robio’s Hurricanes (1480) at Jason’s Phisheads (1254) Ricky’s Cubs (808) at Eric’s Dolphins (647) Matt’s Buckeyes (1045) at Beat Miami (Dream On) (982) David the Patriots (1416) at Jimmy’s Alcoholics (1284) Griff’s Stoners (800) at Anne’s Quakers (1363) Brian’s Seminoles (940) at Don’s Gators (1517)

Week Seven

Robio’s Hurricanes (1022) at Eric’s Dolphins (728) Ricky’s Cubs (755) at Beat Miami (Dream On) (1356) Matt’s Buckeyes (566) at Jimmy’s Alcoholics (1118) David the Patriots (1046) at Don’s Gators (1795) Griff’s Stoners (1171) at Jason’s Phisheads (1249) Brian’s Seminoles (1121) at Anne’s Quakers (988)

Tuesday Thoughts

We’re at the halfway point, and with seven teams sitting below .500, everybody has a shot at the playoffs. Of course, if you want a guarantee spot in the playoffs, all you have to do is win that divison of yours, giving you one of the top three seeds in the playoffs. Currently Dave, Jimmy, and Jason (Who defeated Anne early this season) are the leaders.

Week Eight

Robio’s Hurricanes (1351) at Beat Miami (Dream On) (940) Ricky’s Cubs (1501) at Jimmy’s Alcoholics (841) Matt’s Buckeyes (1466) at Don’s Gators (1180) David the Patriots (886) at Anne’s Quakers (1187) Griff’s Stoners (982) at Eric’s Dolphins (1185) Brian’s Seminoles (1073) at Jason’s Phisheads (921)

Tuesday Thoughts

Straight out of a Greek Tradegy, or a Islamic nightmare the top dogs keep on falling, giving Anne the best record in the league.

After a stunning 5-1 start, two straight loses brings Dave back to reality.

After a 4-0 start, Jimmy drops 3 of 4, moving from head of the table to the kiddie table.

After a 4-1 start, Jason appeared to be on his way to shredding up the record books. Losing two out of three drops him to second best…in his division.

Week Nine

Eric’s Dolphins (1255) at Brian’s Seminoles (1215) Jason’s Phisheads (2129) at Beat Miami (Dream On) (1326) Griff’s Stoners (1691) at David the Patriots (1889) Anne’s Quakers (1315) at Matt’s Buckeyes (1124) Don’s Gators (783) at Ricky’s Cubs (1056) Jimmy’s Alcoholics (1183) at Robio’s Hurricanes (1608)

Tuesday Thoughts

Some records will never be broken. Miami’s 58 game home winning streak, Ted Williams 56 game hitting streak, and Wilt Chamberlin’s 20,000 women. But in fantasy football, records are meant to be broken, and this season is no different. Vote for which record you think has the best chance to SURVIVE. (This means it won’t be broken)

*Jason has 13,443 points after nine games. If he keeps up his 1,437 average, he’ll break the record of 20,812 points.

*Anne sits at 7-2. Sweep the final five games and she breaks the record of 11 wins for a season.

*Griff and Justin decend lower and lower into the night. Can they fall down to Tim’s level for the worst season ever of 2-12?

*Jason has 5 games where he’s scored over 1,500 points. Four more he gets a set of steak knifes and the record, currently held by Rob at 8.

*Six times in ’99 Rob had high score for a given week. Jason is halfway there at three. Can he make it seven by the end of the season?

*Griff’s opponents have scored a combined 12,635 points. That’s an average of 1,403. The record is 18,759. At that pace, Griff could give up almost 20,000 points, crushing the record.

*The worst one season drop from the prvious season is 3 games. Griff won nine games last season, and currently he has two. Likewise, Justin had 8 wins last season and also sits on two for the season.

*The greatest one season improvement, is four. last season Jimmy won 6 games. He has five now. What about Dave? He won 6 games last season, and already has six wins this season.

*Last season Rick had an amazing breakdown perentage of .795 (128-33). This season Jason sits at .768(76-23).

Week Ten

Tuesday Thoughts

’m sure a lot of you are now asking yourself, how can I win the division? How do I get invited to the playoff party? Well, let’s find out.

ALREADY PARTYING IN THE PLAYOFFS (Anne & Jason) ANNE: Has already clinched a playoff berth and at least a fourth seed. With a win over Jason or a Jason loss against Eric next week, Anne can win the division title.

JASON: If he wins his final two games, including the final one against Anne, the division and 1st seed are his. If he loses to Eric again this week, he’s guaranteed the 4th seed, unless Anne loses to Don.

KNOCKING ON THE DOOR (Matt, Dave, Rob, Jimmy) MATT: With a 3-0 record against Dave & Rob, Matt is in the drivers’ seat. If he wins his final two games he wins the division and the 2nd seed. If there is a three-way tie between Dave, Rob, and Matt, then the tiebreaker will go to Matt. To just get into the playoffs, all Matt needs to do is win one of his final two games, or either have Rick, Brian, or Eric lose just once.

DAVE: He once controlled his own destiny, but after losing 4 of 6 and two in a row, Dave needs help getting the division title. Dave loses out to Matt in the tiebreaker by going 0-2 against Matty. However, if Dave can win his final two games and Mat loses once, then the division is his. To get to the playoffs, Dave has to win one of his final two games, or either have Rick, Brian, or Eric lose just once.

ROB: Win my final two games and the division is mine. Not bad for a guy who started off 0-4? To get into the playoff party, I need to win one of my final two games or either have Rick, Brian, or Eric lose one game.

JIMMY: Despite losing six of seven, Jimmy could still end up with the 2nd seed. After defeating Brian, Jimmy improved to 4-0 in his division, thus eliminating Griff and Justin from the divisional title race. If he wins one of his final two games, he’ll win the division and the third seed. To get the 2nd seed, he needs for Rob, Matt, and Dave, each to lose one game, giving Matt the division title. If Jimmy can win his final two games, he owns the tiebreaker over Matt for the 2nd seed.

DRIVING AROUND LOOKING FOR THE PARTY STILL (Rick, Brian, Eric) RICK: Has done everything he can to stay out of the playoffs with three straight loses. But for some reason he’s still there. Also has the toughest road ahead. If he wins his final two games, he’s in if either Brian or Eric loses one game or if he overtakes Eric or Brian in total points. However, if he only wins one game along with Eric and Brian, it will come down to total points, which he trails both Eric and Brian. If he loses both and either Justin and/or Griff win their final two games, Rick would lose out by virtue of losing to both Justin and Griff. It’s going to be tough either way with two games remaining against 7-5 Dave & 7-5 Matt.

BRIAN: Could still win the division. If Jimmy loses his last two and Brian wins his final two, Brian wins the division and third seed. Currently owns tiebreaker over Rick, but not Eric. So if Eric & Brian finish with the same record, and Rick finishes up one game, then Brian loses out. Also, don’t forget about Griff and Justin. If Brian loses to both Griff & Justin, he currently trails in total points to both of them.

ERIC: If he wins his final two games, he’s in if either Brian or Rick lose one game or he maintains a total point lead over Rick. Holds tiebreaker over not only Brian, but also Justin, but loses out to Griff and Rick. Can clinch with one win and either Brian or Rick finishing with two loses.

TRYING TO FIND THE KEYS TO THE CAR (Griff, Justin) GRIFF: From 2-8 to the playoffs? If it comes down to total points in any three-way tiebreaker, he’s in. If Brian, Rick, and Eric all win at least one game, and Griff loses once, he’s out. If two out of those three win two games, Griff’s out no matter what he does.

Justin: Things will be tougher for Justin. He currently holds the tiebreaker over Eric and Rick. If he defeats Brian next week, he’ll hold the tiebreaker over him because of total points. However, he will lose out on all tiebreakers to Griff because of points.

WAITING BY THE PHONE, HOPING SOMEONE CALLS AND INVITES HIMS Don: He’s not out of it yet, but he’s going to need a miracle. If he loses one time, he’s done. If he wins his final two games, he holds the tiebreaker against Brian and Eric by virtue of beating them, and he also leads Eric and Rick in total points. His best bet is for Justin, Girff, Rick & Eric to go 0-2. This would create a logjam at 5-9, guaranteeing it will come down to total points. However, using the 8-team playoff format, no 5-9 team has ever made the playoffs.

Good luck everybody.
