20,000/20,000

Both Jeff/Colby and their opponents score over 20,000 in a season – Week Fourteen, 2004

Right in week one, you just knew it was going to be one of those years. Heading out of the gate, the Pounders lost to Rich Calderon, 1,511-1,510 (the highest scoring one-pt game in league history). Two weeks later, theytraded for Barber and Dunn and the season would start fresh from there; starting off with a stunning 2,094-1,632 victory over Burrier. They followed that win up with another weekly high score.

Jeff & Colby were flying high, but then hit a wall,

dropping their next two, failing to break 1,000 in either. What made life tougher for them was the simple fact that their opponents (although they had yet to face a high score) were scoring a lot each and every week. In fact, their opponent had scored over 1,300 in five of their first six games). Then suddenly, the Pounders went on an amazing second half run. They won four of five, got two weekly high scores and produced a stunning three-straight games where they scored over 1,700. They were leading the league in scoring, by a solid margin.

However, as they entered back into divisional play with a 6-5 mark, everything fell apart. In week twelve, they scored that final 1,700 game, but lost to Calderon 1,950-1,796. It was the second time that season, they scored over 1,500 against Rich and lost. The following week, Jeff/Colby scored over 1,500 again and lost yet again, this time 1,808-1,534. In week fourteen (the final week), they fell back down to earth, scoring 1,172 and losing to Rob. By the time the season ended, Jeff & Colby had scored over 20,182 points (1,442ppg), first in the league.

However, their opponents scored over 20,002 (1,429ppg), the highest in the league. It was the first time in league history, that one team was the high scoring team and his opponents would score the most against them. Thanks to their point total though, they were able to get into the playoffs as an 8th seed (despite the 6-8 record) thanks to the total point tiebreaker. However, it was no shocker that despite scoring a decent 1,349 points in the quarter-finals, the Pounders lost to Griff by 47 points. SIDE NOTE: Since the league has switched to a 14-game schedule, it is unlikely we’ll ever see a 20,000/20,000 team again.
